I wouldn't call myself a Delhi Durbar collector just yet, but I have enjoyed the pictures posted by wadepat and others on this forum. Please keep them coming!

I broke down and bought my first set from the Delhi Durbar series, #00142 Mounted Officer and Gun Crew.

Good for you! We'll make a believer of you yet!:)

Hi Sam04,

Congratulations! You have now stepped into the world of splendor and the spectacular. It will be most difficult for you to ever retreat from this series. As Vamp says, "We'll make a believer of you yet!"

Now that you have acquired the Mounted Officer and Gun Crew, you will need to add Geakwar of Baroda's Gold Gun and his Silver Gun. Oh! And, don't forget the wonderful elephants!

Just when you think you have obtained your fill of the Britains Durbar series, let us know and we will introduce you to the Durbar lines offered by William Hocker and Beau Geste. :D Dave, Vamp, myself, and a few others are always willing to help!

I'm glad you obtained a great set. Again, congratulations!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

MUAHhahhahahhahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Once bitten so to speak

Trust me I've been bitten. If I spent half as much time thinking of ways to make money as I do staring, searching, talking and dreaming of toy soldiers I'd be a rich man.

As for Britains, I want them all, but the Delhi Durbar series is so colorful and the elephants are just plain cool.

Hi Sam,

The Durbar is for me the jewel of the display! I love the color and variety of units and animals. You should probably concentrate on the Elephants from Britains of which there are four. I have posted a list of the entire series with release year and set number number required for a complete display etc, so check that out.

Pat, KV and myself have all of the elephants so you wont have any competition from us on that score. Also keep an eye open on ebay since they come up on there. The one that will be hardest to find is the first one they did, simply called the 1903 Delhi Durbar set number 8848. If you find this one and it isnt going to break the bank get it. I am trying to find out production numbers for this set because it appears to have been treated like a Limited Edition when it came out in 1997, therefore you will see it rarely. It is beautiful. (see KVs recent photo)

If you have any questions on the Durbar series please let us know.

All the best

Dave

Dave,

I continue to inch up the amount I'll spend on a set of soldiers... and the elephants look awesome... if I could only convince my wife! Been married 17 years looking to make it 18.

Hi Sam,

I hear you! I have earned a rather funny nick name from our good friend Pat because of that same reason. I am always trying to find sets for a "good" starting price in auction and if its 1/2 or less of retail well I am a very happy camper. Figuring the average I spend on a set of 5-6 soldiers was 100 bucks if I can get it for less then that of course that means I can streach my collecting cash and get two or even three sets so there you are.. 1/2 Price Dave at your service.

However if the sets are rare I will be a ready and willing to spend what it takes to get it here so keep that in mind if the afore mentioned elephant pops up it would be wise for you to try and get it. However bear in mind there are several guys from the UK who are our competition and seem to have pretty deep pockets so you will not be alone when it comes to trying to get Durbar sets.

All the best

Dave

Thanks for the advice guys. The officer and gun crew I bought does look pretty little lonely on my soldier shelves. Sure would be nice if they were following the Gaekwar of Baroda's Silver Gun set and an elephant or two (or four).

It may happen... who knows? I never really have a plan when it comes to ebay. Most of the fun for me is stumbling accross something unexpected.

Pat, appreciate the photos you sent me of the elephant. It does look awesome. Maybe I could print one out and prop it next to my existing Durbar set as a placeholder ;)

Regards,
sam04

Hi Sam04,

Ha! :D Feel free to print any of my photos! However, I will tell you that all the photos in the world will not take the place of seeing one of the real elephants next to your gun crew! ;)

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

A bunch of those elephants just came up on a Ebay live auction. I don't do the live auctions myself( They like to add premiums) The insanity is contagious. I am still missing one of the elephants. But just one. Two if you consider the Hocker one that displaces the Baroda elephant.
