Desert AA battery - for John Gambale (1 Viewer)

Kevin,

That was some story. Those artillery men sounded like they were doing the same types of jobs as the SAS and LRDG (sometimes with the precursors to the SAS and sometimes in support of the LRDG). It just goes to support the argument made by several members of this forum (notably Ozdigger) that the less famous non-special forces troops often did more than their share of the important and dangerous work.

Agreed Louis, not everyone had a war reporter up their %*£"*)) to tell the tale.

:) Thanks Guys for the Pictures on the SAS LRDG, 8th Army! I like the Bofors 40MM Anti-Aircraft Gun! Maybe Andy will make one for us? Keep up the Spirit of the Desert Campaign WW2!

According to W.B. Kennedy Shaw, the Intelligence Officer for the LRDG, these reporters were a two edged sword. While his men could often dine out on the stories of their exploits, the Germans got a lot of good intel from these (often not sufficiently censored) news reports.

Yeah, I also read that British intel was a leaky bucket in Cairo especially - even before rommels superb sigint.
