Hi All,

Recently over a few weeks, I have started to experience difficulty in opening some of the sub-sections on various computers, either as a visitor or signed in. I don't know how to resolve this except to skip the sub-sections whenever I encounter this.

What sort of problems are you having, Victor, and what operating system and browser do you use?

I do support as part of my job, so I know that those are questions that will help the admins troubleshoot the issue.

Prost!

Hello Brad,

I am using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9. Thanks for looking into this.

Another problem is that when I click on the Treefrog Forum link on google, it takes more than a minute to open! Weird.

Hi, Victor, do you run IE with Compatibility View switched on? If you haven't used it, you can switch it on by clicking Tools to expand its menu. You'll see Compatibility View as a choice in the menu, and also, Compatibility View Settings. If you click the first, it'll switch on CV for the page you're on, and if you click the settings choice, you can list a page by its URL, or even a domain, that you want to open in CV by default.

CV is intended to allow the browser to handle pages that were developed with slightly older versions of HTML, Java, etc, where compatibility with the later releases of Internet Explorer would otherwise be an issue. We recommend it to our customers, for example, as IE's development outpaces our own.

Regarding Google, do you use their toolbar, or have Google set to your homepage? There could be attributes of the domain or its features that might cause slow performance--just a suspicion.

We'll see what the Padre says, too!

Prost!

Hi Brad,

duh? :) I am completely illiterate on these matters.

Anyway, I managed to get to this page and the sub-sections quite easily this round.

Rgds Vic ;)

I am watching this thread with interest...the challenge is that I need to be able to recreate the problem to figure out what might be going wrong.

Anyone else experiencing these issues?

Hi, Vic, I'll see if I can add some screenshots to illustrate what I'm talking about.

In Internet Explorer, look for the menu bar with the options "File", "Edit", "View", and so on. It should include an option, "Tools"

IE8_Tools_option.jpg

Click Tools, which will open its menu (sorry, I can't capture that image). But about 2/3 of the way down the menu, you should see the options "Compatibility View" and "Compatibility View Settings".

If you click "Compatibility View Settings", you should see this dialog popup open:

CV_settings_dialog.jpg

You can do a couple of things here. The dialog should default the site that you're currently on, for example, the forum, and you can click the Add button. This will add the forum to the list of sites that will open in Compatibility View. There is also a checkbox at the bottom of the dialog popup to choose to default to Compatibility View for all sites.

You can also switch Compatibility View on or off by clicking an icon next to the address field at the top of the browser window, which looks like this:

CV_icon.jpg

I'd be curious to know, if you switch to Compatibility View, if you still see the issues you've seen in the forum itself. It probably won't impact the performance problem launching from within Google, that's very likely another issue altogether.

I'm with the Padre--could you be more specific about the kinds of things you're seeing within the forum's pages?

Prost!

Hi Brad and Padre,

I tried using IE as wellas Mozilla Firefox at two separate locations and PCs. The same problem occurs, difficulty in opening the main site and getting to various sub sections, sometimes taking as long as 10 min.

The instructions on Comp view settings only apply to IE. I tried that - it still doesn't work.

An IT colleague of mine says that the problem lies with yr side, either you have migrated to another server and since the searce engine is google, perhaps that has not been updated.

With that, I bow out gracefully of the IT matters...

Hi Victor,

I have no problems logging in to the forum and can navigate as per normal after the forum upgrades.

My home PC is still running on Windows XP SP3 and Internet Explorer 7.

I had display problems for all websites when I upgraded to IE8, so I uninstalled back to IE7 and all was well again.

May I suggest you try uninstalling IE9 and revert to IE8 and see what happens.

Raymond.:smile2:

Hi Raymond,

Since my email below, I logged off, and re-entered the web 20 min later. Got into this site and the sub-sections without any delay.

I'll monitor over the weekend and see what happens.?

Problem seems to be resolved now. I am using another PC and there is no problem getting to this website.

Now that I notice it, the editing panel opens a little slowly for me, that is, it takes a couple of seconds longer for the editing toolbar to draw, and the other objects on the page. I think that started around the time that Vic opened this thread. It's not a problem, just a difference, so I wanted to note it.

Prost!
Brad
