Well they didn't want to play The Sex Pistol's God Save the Queen back in 1977.

In the context it has become popular there...I even find it a little offensive and definitely disrepectful...

The BBC wont play Judy Garland
Wow

It is a matter of context as you well know.

I take it you wont be objecting if somebody plays inappropriate songs to celebrate when Mandela
passes away.

In the case of the BBC it is actually a Govt organisation.

I don't think you understand me at all...not even a little...

and yes...

I would find it offensive if someone played any songs to celebrate Mandela's death...

are you implying I'm a racist???

During the Falklands War the song 'Six months in a leaky boat' by NZ band Split Enz was the subject of a rather gentle form of censorship given that ships sinking was not an image to stir a nation.

That said, people get offended by many things. I wore my Union Jack tie to a St Pat's Day celebration at the Irish Catholic school I was working at and I seem to recall it created quite a stir. I was shocked that so many people could be so wrong about the same thing at the same time.

Gentle Friends,

I am closing this thread as it is clearly heading into political territory, which, as you know, is a forbidden area. Also, I am closing it before it becomes necessary to award infractions.

I appreciate your understanding.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I am not a big fan of politicians but remember the vision on tv coming from the Falklands . The Brits took a lot of damage fighting for the rights of the English living there . The Iron Lady showed passion and It reminded me of Churchill with some of his speeches. Like or hate her she is a big part of history and I was alive to see it all. Chris.
