I don't know how many of you belong to Toy Soldier Chat but Marc Thorsen, who is a master diorama creator and father of Eric Thorsen, the King and Country dealer, is building a train/war diorama for one of the posters over there, named Twinky. Every day Marcus posts pictures of the latest stage of development and Twinky gives comments. It is really something to behold and to watch the creative process at work. I met Marc when we were in Chicago for the show and I can tell you that I was blown away by the dioramas in his house. They defy description. I would encourage all of you to take a look at what he's doing for Twinky.

The pictures are available at Toy Soldier Chat but you have to register to be able to see them.

Dont look if you dont want to be so totally envious! I wish I could justify the expense because I would be getting in line for one! They are with out a doubt some of the best work I have seen in a very long time.

What a great diorama but imagine the cost of it? I wish i had the skill to make something like that. It's a real art form.

That forum is quite a different place compared to this one. The people seem much more opinionated and disagreements seem to break out quite frequently.

The avatar of the girl in the bikini posing with the K&C armour makes me laugh.
I know she's a collector from her posts but it's still an amusing thing to do.

I'm trying to imagine saying to my wife "OK Love, get yer kit off and lie down next to my King Tiger while i take a few pics for the forum!"

Hi Easy,

You certainly hit the nail on the head. I enjoy this site a lot more mainly because "we" dont get angry with other peoples opinions even if we disagree. Strange how two websites devoted to the same hobby can be so very different.

Well anyway have a great day.

I too am a member of both forums. I do prefer this one at Treefrog. It just seems that it is more friendly and if you do get angry over something really stupid, like I did. You are forgiven and you can still participate without recriminations. I guess its sort-of-like having neighbors. You sure do get the variety of human relationships with different neighbors. Some you can deal with on a regular basis and some you wonder if they are even from this planet. Michael:)

I actually enjoy both forums although I think this one is the better one. There are some unusual characters over there and I enjoy the diversity.

BTW, Marc charges by the foot I believe. I've been to his house and what you saw there would blow you away. I bought a diorama from him (small) and I will try to post some photos of it.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures. Do you suspose there is a chance we could see some of the other ones he has built? Does he have a website or just some nice pictures we could look at? I have to tell you I havent seen that kind of quality outside of a museum in a very long time!

Dave,

What's amazing about his stuff is that it's all scratch built. He doesn't buy buildings for his dios -- he makes 'em. When I was at his house he told me that he never likes to makes the same thing twice because there's no intellectual challenge to it. I was talking to him about his creative process and he said that in the mornings he can't wait to get up because he's got so many ideas going through his bed. I'd like to be blessed with one percent of his talent.

In reference to the comparisons on the two forums. I've been a member of both forums since July and I try to access both forums daily whenever my schedule permits and depending the level of internet connectivity of whichever country I'm in at the time.

I enjoy reading the comments on both forums. Both forums have their fair share of "opinionated" members.

The other forum seems to allow more diversity of opinions. Things often get heated but those who have differing opionions are not exiled and threads are rarely deleted. There is a natural tendency for things to settle down and members to work out differences between themselves. Even the most diverse characters are still a part of the family.

There is more "group think" mentality on this forum.

Just my opinion!

Hi All,

When I was a kid I used to build huge dioramas in my yard I had a 10'x10' plot of turf that I could build anything I wanted on it was a great time consumer and I often would be out there all day. I used pieces of dry wall from a renovation job my folks had done and alot of other stuff to build wrecked towns and battlefields I had read about. Mainly I did a lot of France in '44 and North Africa in 42-3 since those were the soldiers I had casting molds for. Made a ton of soldiers and painted them along with the tanks I built. So I am always interested in seeing the work of a master craftsman so when I finally settle down I can begin building some of the battlefields I have been to as well as the ones I have read about. So please see if he will let you take some digital pics next time you visit. I am also planning to build a model of the Durbar stadium from some really fantastic photos I have seen inorder to better display the set.

Have a great day.

Dave
