When you make a diorama do you
A - Try to copy a scene from a movie or book
B - Make your own ideas

It's been a while since I've done one, but I tend to use my imagination to create the scene, but use photos as a kind of reality check and for reference purposes if I'm unsure as to what is historically accurate.

I have built dioramas around a terrain piece that's taken my fancy and on some others I have 'borrowed' ideas / scenes from others I've seen, and then tailored them to meet my own satisfaction.

Main thing is I do it for my own personal amusement and if it looks right to me, then it is right, 'cause it's me I'm doing it for. :)

I use Books as reference and maybe the odd film. I have just finished for a customer a Normandy Diorama and i used a scene from Saving Private Ryan as my idea and then developed it from there.

I always have the sets of figures or vehicles to hand to ensure scale.

Mainly I use my own ideas and then look at books or movies for details in buildings or landscapes.
