I'm looking at a couple of different basic styles of display cabinets for housing some of my K&C figures. One in particular that I'm looking has a width of 43" a depth of 16" and a height of 18". Is 16" enough depth to set up some decent arrangments with K&C vehicles, tanks, etc. or do you guys look at cabinents with more depth?

The cabinets I use are only about 16 inches deep, and they work fine for me.

We use display cabinets that are around 12" deep, 12" high, 12" wide, and they can accomodate one or two vehicles plus figurines depending on size of AFV of course. I believe they need some small (5Watt ?) bulbs added otherwise the subject just gets lost in the gloom at night. We also use standard bookcases. I'll post some photos next week, depending on release by Chinese customs.....:cool: Can hardly wait to get my hands on our collection again. :)

A lot depends on what you wish to display with what?.I for instance have two large figure cabinets on the wall of my study upstairs.I have one for Allies and One for Axis figs.These are deep enough for figures and some of the smaller vehicles,Jeeps,Grief's etc.

For vehicles i use a ordinary bookcase with movable shelves.I can get about six tanks to a shelve or five of the bigger monsters.

Thanks for the tips. On the height of the cabinet, I meant to say 81" not 18". Anyway, sounds like 16" is plenty of depth.

Due to lack of space, I use wall mounted display cabinets ranging from a depth of 6" - 10". This does create a bit of a cramp on creative placement, I find there is enough depth to do plenty of smaller displays.

I don't usually do K-MART but Martha made this ( I like Martha ) - Martha Stuart Living – Solid wood very well made you assemble in ~30 minutes. ~220$. Not on their website but they would have one on display in the stores so you can check it out if interested.

The smaller one in photo is from Restoration Hardware but way too much money for what you get.

Five of my display curios have 11 to 12 inch deep glass shelves. I usually build stepped shelves to place on them so I can get three or four rows of figures on each shelf. I also have a large Howard Miller brand curio with 18" inch deep shelves which I use for vignettes (e.g., Charge of the Light Brigade, Isandlwana, Boxer Rebellion, Austerlitz, etc.). I use a bookcase for my tanks and 1/32 airplanes. I also have two tables that I bought cheaply at Ikea for Waterloo and ACW dioramas.
 
I bought this cabinet for $300 because it didn't have any shelves. So I had some custom cut 12 1/2 inches deep.

That is a great website. I just found my cherry wood "diorama size" Howard Miller brand curio there for $1,659.99 including shipping. It is under tradtional style, one-way sliding door curios as a Townsend. It is 50W x 21.5D x 80H which enables you to set up larger vignettes/dioramas. For example, I could not get all my Frontline Figures Charge of the Light Brigade figures in a regular curio. It has 36 mounted, three guns with five crew each, plus 21 Russian Infantry. It works just fine with this curio.

IKEA has some good products, too. Albiet a little more down scale in quality. I have a glass on four sides unit that is 16W x 14D x 60H. I think I paid about $50 for it. I use it to display smaller vignettes such as Conte's ACW "First at Manassas," five sets of Conte's Roman Infantry, and seven Frontline Figures artillery sets.

That is a great cabinet. I have have it in Cherry (I think it also comes in Oak). I call it my Fronline Figures curio with Napoleonics (2 shelves), Rorke's Drift (1 shelf), mounted & foot knights plus Special Forces (1 shelf), Sudan square (1 shelf), and ACW overflow (1 shelf). I also have a different Pulaski version, but with side opening doors. The side doors let in much more dust than the front sliding door version you are getting. They have halogen lights which can get very hot. Do not leave those lights on for long periods of time.
 
I am just building my own- this stuff is expensive enough as it is. I think you have good measurements there though.

I would recommend that you also consider asking yourself- "Do I want to consider doing a small diorama?" If you do and you want to go with Build A Rama or JG Minis for bases they are sized somewhere around 6 , 10 and 12" blocks.
 
IKEA does have good,albeit lesser quality units. One is called a Bertby(?) it's about 5' by 17" by 7" deep and hangs on the wall I've managed to get about 12 vehicles in mine. Cost is $99. and they're easy to assemble.
Another good place to look is Bombay Co. in most major state side malls, keep an eye for sales and store floor stock clearences.

Thanks for the tips on the Pulaski cabinet. Good to know you give it high marks and thanks for the warning on the hot lights. From looking at Alexdakar's post of his cabinet with 12 1/2" shelves, it looks like I should be able to get a good chunk of my AK and EA vehicles in them. My main concern with depth is it wouldn't be deep enough to really show the vehicles. It also looks like I will have enough space to showcase some of my Imperial Productions sets.
