Just got the news, he passed away today at age 86.
I got to meet him a number of years ago; I was selling at the East Coast Toy Soldier Show in Hackensack and a customer was interested in a number of things, he looked very familiar. He asked if he could pay by check, I said sure, when he handed it to me, I saw the name and said "Thanks Doctor Z"...………...he laughed and we started talking football, just a great guy.
He became a regular customer of mine at the shows and via mail order from that point on, he said he liked me in spite of me being a Patriots fan...……….
Found out he suffered a stroke several years ago, ESPN did a story on him at his house, in the background were loads of toy soldiers he had bought from me.
Last I had heard, his wife was moving him to a facility I believe in Ohio, now I see this; what a nutpunch.
R.I.P. Doctor Z, it was an honor and a pleasure to get to meet and know you.
