Nobody has mentioned this great series in any of our treads (at least not the ones that I have read and I try to read them all).
I first noticed it a couple months ago. It is usually on on a Friday night and then several times during the weekend as a repeat. They use some great computer graphics to show actual combat dogfights from all the wars from WWI to the present. While they are showing the dogfights, they are interviewing the actual pilots, or if they are not with us any more, their wingman. It is a great program that really has opened my eyes into the aspects of combat in the air. The show that was on ealier this week was about the "Old 666", a B-17 that was on a mapping mission over the south pacific and how they use this huge bomber in dogfights with over 17 zeros. They shot down many of the zeros and made it home. The pilot and one other crew member were awarded the Medal of Honor and the remainder of the crew was awarded the Distingushed Service Medal. They were the most decorated aircrew in WWII. Remarkable show. I encourage anyone who gets the History Channel to keep an eye out for it and watch it when you can. Well worth the time. And maybe, it will help your wives to understand why you collect this hobby of ours.
The show tonight is about Dogfights of the Middle East. It has a story about an F-15 that lost a wing and continued to fly. Remarkable stuff.
