This is a really great show on the history channel. It's even in HD now if you have access to it. Fantastic CGI recreations of various dogfights from WWI to modern times. The only knock is they often repeat the previous few minutes every time they come back from a commercial. Something they do with a lot of these shows to extend the run time.

I do love the show.
I've noticed that a lot of the History Channel & Discovery Channel shows are doing this repeat thing. It drives me nuts as does covering up the lower part the TV screen with the Station call letters. I know what channel I tuned to. Leave some screen to view and stop repeating yourself.

Think we should send in a protest.

The one on Friday about Thunderbolts was terrific. The principal story was about George Sutcliffe who, by himself, managed to outwit a pack of ME 109s. Here's a link to an account.

Reminds me of when a rather colorful old air ace was giving a talk to the boys of teh Durban High School about his wartime experinece. He said I was flying my Spitfire when I saw two Fockes approaching me. I pulled into a steep dive as those Fockes fired and I came up behind them and shot bothe those Fockes down.
This casued some consternation amongst teh boys and the headmaster quicly stood up and explanied that the Focke Wolfe was a famous Geramn fighter, To which the old veteran replied with annoyance. NO No both those Fockes were Messchersmits
Regards

The episode on kamikazees - both Japanese and German suicide attacks - was really amazing. Particularly the Japanese rocket jets which dropped off of bombers in midair and flew just over the wave tops into the american ships. A very terrifying weapon that reminded me a lot of the 9/11 attacks. Also the accounts of German pilots ramming allied bombers and surviving were amazing and the recreations are stunning.

Tonight at 11 is an episode on German ramming/suicide planes. Should be interesting in light of the Rammjager discussion.

This is one of my favorite TV series ever. The episode on the 1st jet aces in Korea (F86 Sabre jets versus MIG15's) was amazing, as was the episode on the Cactus Airforce and the first Wildcat Aces.

It's 8:47 a.m., and I am watching the 2 hour Dogfights episode on Kamikazi's. The first half hour of the episode focused on an attack on the destroyer USS Laffy by 50+ Kamikazi's, mostly Vals, Oscars & Judys. 6 hit the ship, but the brave sailors fought on, until the rest were destroyed by a flight of 4 FM2 Wildcats followed by a patrol of 12 Marine F6F Corsairs. What courage! I have tears in my eyes thinking about those brave sailors and marines, not to mention the insane courage of the Kamikazis.

I remember reading the book about them and then getting to stand on the decks of USS Laffey! What a great story. Really tough ship crewed by VERY brave men.
