15th February 1968 taking over from a battered Alpha Company 1/5 Marines, Captain Myron Harrington, commander of Delta Company, had Sgt Robert (Cajun Bob) Thoms lead his squad to attack and capture the Dong Ba Tower, which after bombardment was now ruins with plenty of places for the enemy to lurk in wait for the Marines.
The Tower was part of the old Citadel's defences in Hue which was being used as one of the enemy's command posts.
On the 16th having been ejected from the Tower earlier by overwhelming enemy numbers, Thoms lead his squad back up and retook the Tower.
