Dave - you asked me to show you how to drill and Pin next time I did one. Well this is the simplest one I can think of - how to fix a horse-man figure to a base.

I drill up into the leg of the horse with a suitable sized drill ( here, 1.5mm). I then select a piece of pin (paperclip - slightly slimmer). I use Araldite Rapid (epoxy resin two-part adhesive) to cement in short pieces of clip. Leave to harden for a couple of hours ( says 15 mins on the pack).

Then - once set - cut to suitable length the short piece of clip ( or rod) and use the figure by standing him on your base ( see pic 2 below) which I prepared earlier and mark where you want him to stand. Then drill holes EXACTLY where the pins touch. I do one at a time - then mark up the second one and drill that one.

I drill the two - then do the third one - in this case (see the hole just started) - and mark that one up too - and then drill that one - as the others

Is that clear enough??

Anyone else care to add in their pictures of how they do it? Might be useful to show others - as well as Dave - who might care to try it?

Hope my way helps - johnnybach.

Might as well show you the third pin being set into the hoof. Note that I haven't bothered to cut it off shorter yet - just to show the principle. It cuts very easily with a pair of cutters. When its set - I will cut it off short - stand him on the base with the two other pins in their holes - and this will give me the exact position to drill the third hole. When everything is done - you can then cement the three legs to the base with epoxy resin again - for a long lasting and solid fix.

One set - cut off any protruding pieces below the surface and file flat. jb

Pin now cut off short....

.....and figure slots into the three holes - ready for a dab of epoxy under each hoof. File off any protrusions - and he's there for good. (King George III - by the way - in case you're wondering!).

And that's it.. my way - johnnybach
