Hi All,

I just saw this half-forgotten movie the other night. Starred Jennifer Jones, Gregory Peck, Lionel Barrymore, Joseph Cotten and Lilian Gish in that order, I think. Jones is the lead character here, playing a half breed Indian who is taken in by a white family. The movie pulls no punches on racism. Peck's character (Lewt) had his way with her but won't marry her because his father (Barrymore) disallowed it. Cotten is the other brother. Gish is the long suffering wife. I read that Jones and Gish were nominated for Oscars in this movie.

It really started slow, but picked up halfway into the movie. Peck becomes more interesting in the latter half, almost as if the Director realised that he should have been the lead character here. There is a good scene of Peck's character taming a horse. Jones is bloody attractive...

This is a cult favorite amongst many western fans. It has earned the alternate, tongue in cheek title, "Lust in the Dust". Quite the melodrama.^&grin -- Al

I've also just watched Joseph Cotten in "The Third Man". Definitely one of the best movies ever with that stirring music, stagey post-war Vienna background and, of course, Orson Welles. Trevor Howard did an excellent job, too. I hope they never ever try to colorise this movie.

Excellent movie. The chase through the sewers is brilliant. -- Al
