I had painted this Café Storme figure more than 20 years ago. So I've decided to repaint the figure. I've just started by adding gilt paint to parts of the armour.

I noticed that the armour was more gilt than black. Also Duke Albert had brown hair. The wooden baton was a long stick, unlike the short moulded stem on the figure which I mistook for a roll of parchment.

I decided to go the whole hog - substitute a metal rod for the baton and repaint the whole figure. The results look increasingly satisfying.

Further delineation of painting. A sword was attached to the figure.

Finished painting the ruffs. The gilt armour is also done. Now finalising the painting on the upper hose or breeches.

Ivanhoe,

Thanks for your nice comments. I have just completed the upper hose. I also touched up his "lizard eyes" and darkened the browns for the baton and leather boots. Now waiting for the paint to dry before some final shading.

Great historical piece.

Your effort shows...Something you should be happy to display.

Hi Ivanhoe,

Thank you for your nice comments.

I get a kick out of making and painting my own figures. For me, most of the fun is in researching and the actual construction of the piece. I enjoy thinking of new subject matter, new poses, new ways to represent the costumes and accoutrements in miniature and so on.

Besides purely sculpting de novo, I enjoy salvaging older figures (I wonder which Treefrogger does that in a BIG way?:)) and mixing parts (metal and plastic) and calling my pieces mixed media, pretending that I am an artist etc. I used to put on a post-war khaki British army tunic when I painted my figures but it's too small for me now ... :):):)

I really enjoy the hobby.
