I just saw in the weekly newsletter that Britians is already retiring one of the new figures in the history of the British Army series. Can someone shed some light on why this is happening so soon? Will all new Britians figures be retired so soon after release?

The figure that Blackhat is talking about is 43001 (Private, Battlion Companies 1st Foot Guards, 1795) .

Britains going to start retiring things before the paint dries on the figures. Guess they want you to order quickly. Leadmen

Dear Blackhat:

We are indeed retiring 43001. We are doing this for a number of reasons:

1) We have a lot of figures in the pipeline so it is not practical in some cases to keep everything in the line all year - need to make warehouse and production room for new sets.
2) We have to meet minimum run quantities, if an item does not appear strong enough to meet those quantities we may have to retire it (in the past W. Britain would often go back and re-run an item, then after 6-12 months would close out the excess - making a lot of folks upset - we do not want to do that)

Please note that we will not be retiring all items - 43004, 17803 and 17804 are all being re-run at the moment and are due back in stock come September.

Hope this makes sense - in an ideal world I would be able to accurately predict how much of each set we could sell and make exactly that amount - then again if I could do that I probably wouldn't be doing this (which I love by the way!).

All the best,

Richard

Richard,

Thanks for your response. I understand that its tough trying to estimate demand and schedule production accordingly. I was curious because I can't always afford to order sets as soon as they appear. I have three children, so sometimes the cash flow isn't always available when new sets are released. (I was informed last month that one of them will need braces soon. Ouch!)

Usually, if I really like a set, I will eventually buy it. I am getting concerned that my window of opportunity is shrinking. Given that the new Britains releases are being spread out more this year, I have the dilema of deciding to pursue the ACW series now, or wait until the Rev War sets are shown, and then decide which series -- or portions of both -- I should collect.

Hi Blackhat:

Was away on vacation. Three children and braces for one - ouch! And I thought two was a handful.

Tough choice - the ACW sets I will try to keep in stock - I have just re-ordered 17803 and 17804 - so you have some time to see what you think of the Rev War before commiting too heavily.

Still looking at mid July for the new catalog. Here's hoping your other two do not need braces!

Richard
