I like to look at the reenactor sites around the US and Europe. I noticed that some Eastern European groups that do Middle ages or Renaissance warfare also have women members that do Gypsies, "KanKan" and Belly Dancers. The groups must get paid for performances. Are these acts "crowd pleasers" without any real historical connection to the period? Was Belly dancing done in Europe under the Ottomans?

haha no my friend,i check this out for you and this is the answer:

Belly Dancers came from Ancient Egipt, marocco, and middle east.It was played by the woman for ritual for other woman giving birth, relaxing during other woman giving birth and more oppening when other woman giving birth.
In the year 1893 the woman from north africa show this dance to a Chicago and thaat is how thsi dance come in USA.
Later Hollywood made this dance famous.
In my country,Slovenija this dance came in year 1970 and the first dancer it was Jasna Knez,so no otams bring this in 15 century haha.
About KANKAN i didnt find nothing but i think this is a french dance.....

Thank you. If I ever get to Europe, I want to see Eastern Europe during the reenactment season. Lots of color and beautiful people.
