A bit of a flaw in the hardware supplied with Jenkins' model stands was pointed out today on the JJD FB group.
Basically, there's a problem with the stands in that models tend to be difficult to fix properly at a desired attitude, or fix at all, leaving the model vulnerable to spinning about on the supplied screw.
I need to add that the problem is MUCH more evident with some models than others, as the farther that the stand fitting is from the model's center of gravity, the harder it is to fix reliably at a given attitude, or at all.
The shape of the model's fuselage also impacts the stability of the model on the fitting. The more rounded the fuselage is, the more likely the model to come loose on the supplied washers and screw.
And if the screw is even slightly lose, the tiniest little bit, the heaviest part of the model will rotate around and down, until it's gravity neutral.
The news isn't all bad, however, in that there's an easy fix for the issue.
Basically, it involves using rubber washers in the place of the supplied acrylic washers as illustrated in the images below:
And that's really all there is to it. I've found the method and materials above to be 100% effective. No more dancing models! Hopefully JJ will read this post and modify the hardware that ships with his stands at some point in the future!
