After 100+ transactions on ebay I had something strange happen to me yesterday. I had just won an auction for a particular Britains set that I had wanted very badly. After the close of the auction I promptly paid for the item with paypal. When I checked "My Ebay" to look over my auctions, I noticed that a message appeared under the seller of the auction I just won and stated the he was no longer a registered user with ebay. What....!!????!!

Does this mean that my chances of ever seeing the piece are minimal? If I never receive the set, can I possibly get my money back from paypal? I noticed that the seller ended their next auction 2 days early to accept the high bidders bid. If this is common practice for them maybe that is why he got Naru'd from ebay.

I don't think it's an offense to terminate an auction early. Theoretically, the fact that he's no longer a member shouldn't affect your chance of getting the item. You just can't use the protections (big joke) that ebay affords and obviously you can't leave him negative feedback if you don't get the item. However, it is certainly disquieting.

Digger, Never ran into that one before. What was this persons feedback rating before you started? Thats very important to know the reputation of someone before you start bidding. People do come and go but you have to be very careful.
Ebays been full of theives and identity theft recently. I got an email I THOUGHT was via ebay from a bogus customer. When I tried to respond to this ebay member question, my user name and password did not appear. So, Like an idiot, I typed them in. Bingo, he scored my password, listed tons of cameras and was using my account to sell stolen goods!
Scammer caught, my password changed, everything okay now, but it could have been very ugly.

If youcannot contact the seller, contact paypal NOW, contact ebay, put a stop payment on your check asap, whatever it takes, but I would do it now.

FUBAR:mad:

He seemed like a very reputable seller by his history. drive-inauctions (username) - 6724 transactions - 99.7% feedback - Square trade pro seller - member since 9/18/02. Anyone done business with this seller?

Hi Guys First off a couple of important points!!

1. Immediately go the Ebay site map (from opening Home Page) and down load the Ebay toolbar!
2. I recommend you include your Paypal log on and password when asked as this will also protect your Paypal information.
3. This toolbar will immediately inform you when you are not on an Ebay or Paypal website, and will allow you to report them. So no one else has further problems with idenity theift!

Be careful these folks are clever! The latest scam is they send you a message after an item closes that did not sell. They claim they are on Paypal and will buy the item and pay immediately when you respond to the message.
The message actually comes from Ebay, but when you try to respond it askes you to log in again! If you have the Ebay Toolbar as I do it immediately pops up and warns you!

Back to your current problem,
1. Contact seller immediately, ask him what happened?
2. Cancel Paypal payment if possible.
3. Paypal protects you.......But only if this guy has money in his account. If he drains his account you are out of luck. They will put a hold on any new funds if they catch them going in before he transfers them out! So act quickly and remember Paypals Buyer Protection is nothing but Hot Air!
It is not insurance period! If the funds are in the account they will return them to you (after they investigate your claim-say 30 days) If the guy is a crook he will pull the funds and Paypal Will Not Go To His Bank To Recover Them!

If anyone has any more Ebay or Paypal issues or questions drop me a note. I have been at it for 8 years and I am a trading assistant, power seller, what have you!

I unfortunatly also won a bid with this drive in auctions and have the (this user is no longer a registered user) on my ebay account message.:( I,ve delt with them a few times before and they always had fast very well packed shipping and as a matter of fact i just received an order today from them but i still have one on the way. This company sends an email to me just before they ship out the stuff with a tracking number they seem to be very professional. I only had one problem with them if you could call it that. On the item i just received, i had bid on it and 2 other actions a couple of weeks back and they weren,t getting any bids i think, so they pulled the auction (i thought they had sold them in store or something but i now feel it was lack of views or bids) And about a week later all 3 were reposted but this time with more bids (I only got one of the 3). I,m sad to see them go they had lots of retired britain sets all the time and i always got them at a good price. I got almost all of my napoleonic britain sets from them wich are all retired and never paid that munch. I hope you and i both make out o.k. with this but i think we,ll get our stuff they seem to be a professional company.

Excellent suggestion. During the past year or so, I have received numerous emails telling me that my account information with eBay is soon to expire. The email will "link" you to your account, if you give them your access information. It is Bogus. I have reported them to eBay several times. They seem to have disappeared but you have to be wise with internet useage. I recommend that anyone with a windows operating system go to www.microsoft.com and click on the download section. Keep your updates current. Also go to the microsoft search engine and type in Microsoft Antispyware Beta 1. Click on the second listing for downloading the software. It is a superior blocker and is auto updated. Also, when you renew your virus protection, the new version of Norton has new internet protection features. They are all based on bad experiences that have been reported to them. I recommend that everyone do the above. There are real jerks in the world who will steal everything they can get. Michael :)

And what are the new Napoleonics and when will they be released.;)

I did indeed receive this very email w/ confirmation #. It said the item would ship today. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for all the great information and help.

I've learned through a bad experience never to trust anything that looks it's real from paypal or ebay. They're clever forgeries. Anything that asks you to sign in through a link is a scam. You'll notice that they never have your user id. Usually, if they do, it's legit.

Listen to John. He knows what he's talking about.

You can always mouse over the link and at the bottom of the browser you can see what the real link is. I've seen some that link to Russia.

I've received the e-mail saying that my account information is going to expire and asking for credit card information. I immediately reported it as spam. I, however, had only one truly bad experience on e-bay. This character on e-bay from Australia who sends you e-mails with the name "Father Greg", claiming to be a priest, accepted payment on an expensive set of old K&C glossy stuff from the 1980's, kept responding to my e-mails claiming that he had sent the package until the time to leave negative feedback had expired, and the item had disappeared from my "My E-bay" page, and then ignored my subsequent e-mails. Watch out for him, and if you get an e-mail from "Father Greg" on an item you purchased, don't listen to his B.S., hit him with negative feedback and report him right away.

Nothing to fear digger i recieved my order today and the seller is back up on ebay already. I think it was some kind of mix up or something.

My dad just had this same thing happen to him on eBay only it was for dvds from a seller in China who was also a seller with a stellar reputation. My dad had paid for them using Paypal and the seller has assured him that they have been shipped out. They were Christmas presents for my mother and so of course my dad still wanted them, but eBay contacted my dad and told him if they came in the mail he should refuse them and send them back!
He has no plans to return them if/when they show up, but it sure seems like something odd is going on with eBay and Paypal.

I have had the same experience with a seller from Spain (Madrid). I purchased 4 Del Prado Napoleonic Cavalry on 18 October, used PayPal (credit card) and waited. After 60 days the item disappeared from my purchased list on eBay. I have contacted the seller numerous times after the first 30 days and was assurred that the items were shipped. Now I go back to the history of the transaction through my PayPal history file and the seller is no longer registered with eBay. I do not expect to see the cavalry figures. I have contacted the credit card (bank) and have begun filing a claim as an internet fraud. I have since made the choice to deal with the five or six dealers in the UK that I trust. There is one particular fellow in Dublin Ireland that is very reliable and I will continue to use him. But as everyone says, buyer beware, especially on eBay. But I agree with Shannon, something is going on with eBay and Paypal. Paypal will not do anything because this person no longer has an account and eBay won't as they are no longer registered. What a rip. 674 transactions with 229 different sellers and this is my first bad experience. I guess I am really lucky compared to others so I should count my blessings. :) Michael

And what are the new Napoleonics and when will they be released. Almost forgot, had to go back through edit and add my closing signature. Come'on Andy, Give it up. Michael

Ebay and paypal probably won't do anything because paypal is owned by ebay.

One of my biggest ebay OH-NO problems seems to be the del prado cavalry figures i get from england being mailed in envolpes instead of boxes and arriving to me all broken and bent and chipped. This shipping method has got to go, i,ve had about 12 or more arrive broken. I also got a K&C figure on ebay(the collectors club knight)shipped with this envolope method and not even all the foam in the K&C box saved the figure, the box was crushed and the crossbow was bent and the paint all chipped and the envolope was half open and looked like it had a tire mark on it. I think that is part of the problem with the envolope method they get thrown on top of piles of boxes wich are square and stay in place and the envolopes are odd shaped and fall off the top and get run over by fork trucks and steped on and god knows what else!!!I tried to contact that K&C dealer i got that figure from on ebay to resolve the problem and he wanted me to send pictures of the broken iteam and i didn,t have a digital camera at the time and i,ve tried poloriods in the past with broken del prados and they don,t come out clear enough so for the $30 it wasn,t worth the time and bull. I should have just left him a bad feedback but didn,t as he would probley have left me one also for HIS bad shipping method. Has anyone here had problems with this shipping method also or do i just have real bead luck?

I've ordered a few Del Prado items from english sellers but never had the luck you had. They were always shipped in boxes so there were never any major problems. I would either ask the seller to change his shipping method or go with a new seller since there are a lot of them out there.

Yes brad thats pretty munch what i,ve been doing latly is contacting the seller and asking them to ship in a box and go with the surface mail instead of the airmail to cut down on the extra shipping cost.Surface mail is half the cost of air but can take awhile to get to you sometimes but if they have room on the planes they will take some of the surface mail also. I,ve gotten a few figures surface mail that came just as fast as airmail. Almost all of the broken figures were the del prado cavalry. It must be the extra wieght of the mounted figures becuse i,ve got the whole 100 foot figures (most delivered in envolpes)and didn,t have any problems other than two that were shipped this way but were open and used that were broken.

Thought I would take you up on you offer :D - any more Ebay or Paypal issues or questions drop me a note. I have been at it for 8 years and I am a trading assistant, power seller, what have you!

I have been trying to set up my Paypal account to hit my Credit Card not my bank account, but I don’t seem to be able to do it. Any suggestions?

Ebay and the internet are a scurry place, but where would we be with out it. Toy soldier people do not live just down the street, so I for one am thankful for it but very couscous about it. I try to deal only with people I know, and send only what I can afford to lose to those I don’t.

Years ago I purchased a car form a dealer and they had my check for I was to pick up the car the next day. The fed's indicted him that night, after 30 years of business, for speedometer altering. I got the car, he sold the business and I still buy there 10 years later. Good people that an employee got into trouble. :) So you never know, just be careful, one rotten apple can spoil the barrel and Ebay has more than one. Toot

When you are paying for your auction via Paypal if you look closely it will have a link for other funding options. If you click on it, it will take you to a screen that will allow you to fund your purchase from your credit card. They prefer you to use your checking account (which saves them fees) so you will have to select this option for each purchase. It will also ask if you are sure you want to do this.
Paypal is expensive but I have found it to be safe & reliable, just don't expect much from their "Buyer Protection"......its a case of Expect Nothing & Avoid Dissapointment!

Hope this helps.

Njja
