Just sold something and when I sent the invoice there was a $10 tax on it. Now my question is what if the guy returns it for any reason, breakage, whatever. What happens with that $10? Does the state who collected it return it, what a nightmare that would be trying to get a refund. Would I as the seller have to refund it even tho I never seen the money?
Has anyone had a buyer refuse to pay when they learned there was a tax? This whole thing is a cluster ----.

If he returns it, he gets a refund through you, Ebay collects the tax, so they refund it back. Sales tax to states is paid quarterly, so as long as the return happens within that quarter, it's no big deal for Ebay.

I had a buyer from Virginia try to void a sale after he paid for it and I had shipped it, I had proof of shipment, so he could not void it.

Ebay does all the work for you with this; that said, if they did not and you the seller had to collect, hold and submit sales tax to states, that would be a deal breaker for me on Ebay…………………..
