Ebay Support for Sellers (1 Viewer)

I had a small item for sale on ebay. It got a bid a few days ago. This morning the bidder cancelled his bid with the reason given that he couldn't contact the Seller. I have had several ebay messages from buyers this week so I am reachable. But no message from the buyer who said he couldn't contact me.

Easy enough for ebay to check to see if the buyer even tried to contact me - but I guess if you lie it's OK for ebay.

No big deal about the cancelled bid - it's a small item that will sell. But nice to see ebay doing something for the seller. :rolleyes2:

Wonder what ebay's reaction would have been if I cancelled the sale saying I couldn't contact the buyer? :rolleyes2:

Last time I used the cancel a bid feature (a couple of years ago), I think there were three choices. Guess he used the most convenient one.

Fortunately it wasn't on an expensive item in a hot bidding situation. But I'm sure I would have had the same ebay support. So much for bids being binding.. But I did send him an ebay message (not a nasty one).

Happened to my auctions a few times: if a buyer wanted to cancel his bid, why should I care about the reason "why"? Lying or telling the truth in this case does not matter to me, he just does not want to buy. The last thing I want that eBay starts policing these issues, I would rather prefer if they put less "squeeze" on eBay sellers with all their new regulations.

I agree with you. I don't want to sell to someone who has changed his mind and is forced to buy. I just object to ebay claiming that a bid is binding when it clearly is not. And wouldn't it be nice if ebay treated the Sellers better. As soon as I have finished selling off my excess models, I'm pretty much done with ebay.

Better to have them cancel. Usually they bid let the auction conclude, then stiff you. I have had a few bidders give me sob stories and just not pay. Then you have to jump through hoops to get your final value fees refunded.

Unfortunately, I have had that happen from a couple of sellers as well

A bid is no t binding until the item has ended and the winner is determined. I've canceled a few bids in my time and had others cancel bids on my auctions - no big deal.

Although, a few times, I have busted people with multiple user id's trying to manipulate the end price of my items. If I see any activity resembling that, I will not sell the item until ebay has had a chance to investigate. they will ban buyers who do that.

In the times where I've needed to file for a listing refund, it's been pretty simple. I'll offer the buyer to back out of the transaction with no consequences but if they don't answer I'll open a dispute. Once thing I think ebay should do in these cases (where we sellers have no power) is to guaranty the winning bid price to us. That way we sellers will get paid and ebay can do with the buyer as they please. But thats fantasy land thinking.
