Ebay chopped my legs out from under me on May 1st...

where they used to give me 100 free insertion fee ads per month...

they have lowered it to only 40 per month now...

that is significant...they took away 60% of my free ads...

I asked a representative today why...
and she replied...
in a practiced memorandum style response...
"that Ebay is trying to "clean up" all the dead ads that sellers just keep relisting"...
I felt like she was referring personally to my account...^&grin...
I do keep relisting until the item sells...
usually lowering the price occasionally ...
but I do relist items...

I don't like this new policy...
but...
what can you do?

her option was to buy an Ebay store for $20 a month...
with no contract...
which gives me 250 free insertion ads per month...

or

buy the same Ebay store for only $15 a month...
if you buy the year in advance...
saving $60 a year...

so...
just passing this info on...
if you have a basic seller's account...
watch your listings...
it's no longer 100 per month...
it's only 40 per month...
expect a 30 cent charge for any ads exceeding your 40 quota per month...

I don't think that will hurt the mega sellers as I suppose they'll just see that as a cost of doing business. For people below that, it will have a definite impact. I've been listing about 30 or so items a month for the last few months so I don't think it will impact me. However, it's a pretty stupid move otherwise. It's the kind of thing you do when you're a monopoly: because you can.

They want everybody with multiple listings to open an eBay store. I must get a dozen solicitations from them every week pushing me open one. They email and call me. I told the rep I may when they start lowering their fees. It's like dealing with a shy.

two good things I forgot to mention...

if an item sells that you paid an insertion fee for ...
they will refund the insertion fee...

also the 40 free insertion fee ads they allow us...
are available in the 10 day format...
with no extra charge...

still...

to take away 60% of my free ads is kind of rough I think...

It must be California thinking because in Texas the more items listed the more chance of selling and the more 10% EBay fee and 5 % PayPal fee collected. It seems acinine to charge a lisiting fee and limit amount of lisitings.

The whole issue was that EBay store owners complained that small sellers were getting unlimited listings when they had to pay a monthly fee. Soooooo they cut the small guy back to 100 free per month. Well I guess they think that they will cut us back to 40 and force us to buy a store to. Eventually the money grubbers will not let you list unless you pay a monthly fee like the stores.

Then a New Company will see the opening and create a competitive on line auction house with free lisitings like EBay when it first started. It is the American way that the first company with a good idea becomes greedy and is also the first one out of business because they created their own problem. I hope that day comes soon

Hi Brad,

Didn't know that you were a presence over there. Don't want to give you a big head, but I'd rather do business with the devil that I know.:) What's your ebay handle? If you don't want to cite it here, please PM me.

Thanks,

-Moe
