I read this monstrous tome a few years back when it first came out and still rank it as one of my alltime favorite books-It's Ike for crying out loud. I still remember the day it came in the mail from the Military Book Club. I just stopped everything and immersed myself in that great book. The nice thing is that it reads so easily. D'este must be one of the great historical narrators out there.

Yes, I am biased of course, I am a HUGE Ike fan so naturally, I cannot be expected to be biased. I remember when I got this book it was about a month or so away from the CPA exam. Needless to say, I didn't pass that go round.

Let me know what you guys think- anyone who read the book or D'este's works

STANDS ALONE!!

I haven't read this particular book but a couple of years ago I read his "Decision at Normandy." It's a balanced look at the D Day campaign (particularly Montgomery), a fantastic piece of work, well written and reads well. Can't recommend it too highly.

WOW!! There are some pretty cool items in there

The Korean war jacket, the Atlantic charter, the Notice to the Germans, Truman's letter to HAP Arnold, papers from Rommel and Patton.

I love the letters from Eddie Rickenbacher- that is CLEARLY somone who understands what war is about.

TOP SECRET DDAY documentation!!!

Gotta love the Stalin paperwork

HOLY CRAP- An AWI muster call!!! page 35

Abe Lincoln material page 43

LINCOLN'S FAREWELL ADDRESS!!!

The Centennial celebration

Schliemann's discovery of Troy!!!
