Hey,
What do you folks think of EK Castings? Kolobob uses them now more than Pegaso and Andrea, etc. I think the sculpting is inferior and cheap. The cost is like $10 per kit. Not worth such a nice paint job! If this topic has been posted before forgive me.

I've been painting these figures for a long time when they first came onto the market and the maker, Eduard Kasinsev (EK) sent me some samples and find them very well sculpted with good poses.

I have both Napoleonic and Samurai figures in my collection.

Now I see that there are a few sellers on EBay selling copies, which is a shame, but that's life in Russia or Ukraine nowadays.

Sculpting of EK is not to todays standards
Casting itself is not cleaned adequately
A lot of EK kits sold on eBay are often mix with copies of Andrea and Pegaso kits.
I suspect that some Pegaso and Andrea kits painted in Russia are actually painted jobs done on counterfeit castings <I am now a Pegaso and andrea dealer so I have the real stuff in my hands and can compare easily>
with the ruble dropping 30% against the dollar, how come are russian figures (kolobob ones) costing now at least 50% more than one year ago ?
food for thoughts

I meant that the price in US dollars is now 50% more.
So for example one figure which cost previously 100$US (3000 ru in the pockets of the seller), sells now for 160$ (6000$ ru in the pockets of the seller)... See what I mean ? (Conversion rate are not exact)

Yes I do. Since I do not want to make free advertisement here on this forum, you can find me under the canadian retailers tab in both Pegaso and Andrea websites.
Cheers

Do you have an online store Alex?

Alex, you make an excellent point. Kolobob is not using Pegaso and Andrea castings, he's selling pirate white metal copies of Pegaso and Andrea figures. He's not the only one, and no offense meant to anyone from Russia, but I take it as a given that 99% of the castings I see on eBay, offered by sellers in Russia, Belarus, the Ukraine, etc, are pirate copies.

Buyers need to know, so they can decide for themselves whether or not to buy these copies.

Of course, Andrea plays loose with copyrighted subjects, so, serves 'em right, but still....

Prost!

I have imported several EX Castings figures; A Roman Legionary, A Greek Hoplite and A Viking. The figures are very well cast, highly detailed and historically accurate. The figures stand 65mm high from top of base to top of head. EK Castings is marked on the bottom of the base. EK Castings has a website: EKCastings.Com. I will buy from the again as their products are excellent. Several sellers on eBay offer their products. The EK Castings figures are also sold painted. I display my painted EK Castings Roman next to K&C Romans and you cannot tell them apart IMO.

EK Roman on the right with two K&C Romans. The casting quality is equivalent IMO. The Greek and Viking are also well done.

EK Castings also make some excellent WWII Russian figures that excel both K&C and Figarti in detail and quality. The Armor in the photos is by Figarti.
