I was bequeathed these two castings. I don't quite like the poses but the details are quite good. So I plan to cut these up and reuse them in different guises.

It will be interesting to see what you convert them to ..... ???

I'd tend to pant them as-is but make them look like they are in snow during the retreat from Moscow in 1812 because they are wearing overcoats coats !!

Hi John,

You are right that these two figures have a Russian retreat look about them. But I have some critique on their appearance:

For eg, in a Russian retreat, why would the porte aigle continue to hang on to his halberd and flag, nevermind his helmet? Mark of rank? But everyone else was fully covered up, muffled etc. I remember that sometime during the retreat, all the colours were burnt. The porte aigle only marked the correct positioning of the formations, which were non-existent during a column march.

The colour bearer has funny looking lower legs, seem a bit shorter.

Anyway, I thought that it would be fun to convert these with Historex parts to create unique figures. I plan to do away with the overcoats.

the retreat to sometime to happen, and at the start the weather wasn't as bad a later on, therefore the uniform depicted could be authentic. the officer seems to have gloves, so that's appropriate, and the Porte Aigle would be wearing the helmet as a badge of rank and even later in the retreat, drawing from that period still show cavalry wearing helmets.

Bit of a hard job removing overcoats??? I'd leave them because I don't have many in overcoats, but I will be watching these figures evolve over the coming months,

Hello John,

You are right about the first few weeks of the retreat being in fairly pleasant weather.

My initial thots were to saw off the heads and some limbs here and there. Not sure what to make of the poses which I really don't like and the wrinkling on the cloth is also a little coarse. But I take your point about the overcoats.

You are pleading for a stay of execution for these two EK figures. I get it .
