First thing I ever watched on Netflix was Narcos so this type of genre is one I am interested in.

If you liked Narcos or Sicario or The Counselor type movies then you will probably like this. Follows the career of Mexican drug lord El Chapo who became more well known after his escape from a Mexican prison via a very elaborate tunnel.

This was the guy Sean Penn went to interview.

All in Spanish so one of those where you have to pay attention to reading the subtitles. I would rate Narcos as better but nevertheless this was still interesting. Chapo ran one of the Mexican drug cartels which became more powerful after the Colombian cartels had been disrupted by law enforcement action.
He does some early work for Pablo Escobar but then heads his own cartel and rose to become the most powerful drug trafficker in the world.

Shows a lot of the rivalry between the various Mexican cartels, and the police and military and political corruption.

Lesson to be learnt is it is not a good career move to be involved in digging secret cross border tunnels for a drug lord.

Quite similar career path to Escobar and whilst he did not make as much money as Escobar he did become the most feared drug lord at the height of his career. Became 10th richest Mexican and once rated at 41st most powerful person in the world by Forbes.

Now in jail in USA.
