Hey everyone. I'm new to collecting, and this is just my second day posting on my board. I'm currently a 1:32 modern guy that's looking to expand into 1:32 Revolutionary War collecting as well. Part of what excites me about the modern day stuff is setting up potential battles in addition to historical ones.

I just bought some Forces of Valor Modern Vehicles and (The LAV and the Amphibious Assault Vehicle) and some Figarti Iraq toy soldiers to go along with them. An MLRS is on it's way.

As I posted on the Figarti forum, part of the reason I hesitated for so long was that until I found Figarti, I'd only seen U.S and U.K. weapons and figures in 1:32 scale. While nice for display, there were never opposing forces for them. I assumed that had to do with the politically touchy issue of making, say, Al Qaeda toy soldiers.

I have a few questions. First, does anyone know if Forces of Valor plan on releasing any more "opponents" for Modern U.S. Forces. (I'm defining modern for the purposes of this question as anything post-Vietnam to today)?

They could be Iraqi or Afghan insurgents, Republican Guard units from the first gulf war, modern Russian or Chinese equipment. Even Warsaw pact stuff from the cold war. Please keep in mind that I'm not really up to painting yet.

Wraith recommend some figures for from a company called Field of Conflict, who did a three piece generic Mid-east terrorist three piece set. But for now, it looks like my marines will be guarding a checkpoint and taking fire from a small group of some lightly armed Iraqi National Guard forces. Even if the T-72 shows up, I don't think it'd be much of a threat.

I understand that, with so many figures manufactured in China, their government might not be thrilled at producing "enemy soldiers" for foreign consumption. But one would think that they or the Russians would make their own contemporary military toys for domestic consumption.

My second question - and this might be the wrong forum for it - but is there someplace else besides FOV where I might find, for lack of a better word, "opposing soldiers" to fight my modern Marine and Army Units in 1:32 scale? Again, the closest I've come is a 1:32 Iraqi T-72 tank that I ordered off e-bay and I'm holding my breath to see if it wasn't a misprint of a 1:72 version.

Last question - does ANYONE make 1:32 modern aircraft/helicopters? Every time I've come close, I see that it's a mislabed 1:48.

I understand for Wraith that there are very few modern collectors. But I can't be the only person who's had this issue.

Any insight into these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Mark. They are many better here to answer your modern collection questions but I thought I would just note that you can set up as many potential or possible battles with your historical figures as you can with your modern ones. Very few collectors actually have sufficient figures to accurately model the larger battles and for every reported battle there were many unreported minor ones that give you great latitude to explore the possible as well as the actual. Happy collecting, whatever period you chose.

Testors has a 1/32 easy build Apache. Kind of a snap together with a few screws .Found one at Michaels crafts.

Hi Mark,

I might be able to help you with some modern stuff. If you're new here, then you probably didn't see these in the Miscellaneous section of the forum where I originally posted them.

They're available from the souvenir shop at The Military Museum in Beijing and what you see in the photos is just a sample of the models we saw. I reckon they're made by FoV for the Chinese Mainland market. The scales range from around 1/24 - 1/32 - 1/35.
We're going back to Beijing at the end of this month and I can nip into the museum again to take a lot more snaps of what's available if you like.
There's another shop I know of in Beijing that sells more of the same - and might be cheaper. I'll check it out if you want.
If you're interested then just drop me a PM or email.

Cheers

Sorry...haven't checked this thread in a while. Wow...that's fascinating that FOV makes 1/32 Chinese military vehicles. I'd love to know more about them if you haven't already taken your trip.

And yes...Figarti made and continues to make "enemy combatants" (Iraqi insurgents). Their Iraq line is quite impressive, as is King & Country's hard to find Special Forces line.

We're heading to Beijing next week. Going to be busy, but we'll take time to visit the shop in the museum and there's another shop at the entrance as well. So I'll get a few photos and post them. I can PM you a link to a currency conversion website if you like.
I'm not 100% certain they're FoV - but there's a marked similiarity.

Cheers

I'd really be interested in modern Chinese vehicles in 1/32. I hope you can provide some photos.
With respect to 1/32 enemy combatants, the only ones that are available to the best of my knowledge are Figarti, which has the largest selection, King and Country, which will probably look large, and Field of Conflict.

Okay, we'll try and get some on Thursday or Friday afternoon and get them
posted ASAP. I'll see if I can get a price list as well and post a link to a currency converter.

Cheers
