The war of the roses saw the Tudors ascend to the English throne. In historical terms the early years of the Tudor dynasty were not renowned for famous battles and large scale conflict. England walked a fine line using diplomacy between the French and the Spanish together with the Holy Roman Empire. Intrigue and espionage reigned supreme.
Of course the lustful ways of Henry VIII gave way to a more serious conflict with Catholicism and the Spanish resulting in the Amarda during Elizabeth I reign.
However, there was a degree of conflict during the early Tudor years with various expeditions out of the English stronghold of Calais on the northern French coast. And there were the normal clashes between England and Scotland most famously during this period at the battle of Flodden - where the Scots were soundly beaten.
It was a fascinating time in history as gun powder had made the armoured Knight obsolete but the last vestiges remained. Cannon and hand held guns as well as pike and swords dominated the battlefields. However, long and cross bow was not quite done yet and still played a part in conflicts during the early 16th century.
I hope you enjoy this small collection of figures from this more obscure period of military history.
