Facebook anyone? (1 Viewer)

Not much for FB anymore. That is so 2011 ^&grin

I do check out Twitter though.

If John wanted to reach people he would be better off here.

Are you kidding me, my wife is the number one fan of FB, not going to expose my hobby to her, otherwise it's all over. Cheers, Robin.

Other than counting on FB IPO stock to make my second million, I gave up trying on my first, I have no interest.

My wife is too busy with Angry Birds to pay much attention to FB.

I avoid facebook at all costs as it is, imho, a delivery system for narcissists. If John wants to reach people he needs to update his website and post on this forum. My wife is also on facebook and she does not need to know what I pay for toy soldiers as I get enough grief when the boxes arrive at home.
Cheers,
Benjamin

The Facebook page is not associated with john jenkins designs - it is a fan site. I don't think John has time to keep a face book page. I know he visits this site to read and when he has time he updates his web page.

Personally, I would rather John stayed off the computer and sculpted more figures for us. :D

Even if the FB is just a fan site, FB can generate a lot of business. My nephew is a painter and paints a lot of portraits. Since he started using FB he's doubled hus business.

Some of you say that he should soend his time here rather than FB. He would be preaching to the converted whereas on FB and maybe Twitter he could hit a much larger audience. Social media is the way to go.

You're right Brad. I work as a photographer and also lecture in the media department at a college here in Perth. One of the things that is covered in some of classes is the role of social media such as Facebook in society. We look at it from various perspectives including how it is able to shape perceptions and instigate change (think of the Arab spring) as well as from a business POV (IP protection, how photographers and media content providers can use it to develop their 'brand' and reach new markets etc). All that data that's being harvested every time anybody logs onto the computer (not just FB) has value and Facebook has really capitalized on providing businesses with targeted marketing opportunities based on the comments, status updates, pages and groups visited as well as the data they provide in their personal info. A paradigm shift has occurred over recent years and anybody who thinks Facebook is just about playing farmville or posting inane 'status updates' doesn't fully understand how it's being used by businesses to shape market perceptions and attract new customers.

There's lots of toy soldier and modelling groups and businesses (including Treefrog) on Facebook. It may not be for everyone, but it can definitely be used to one's advantage. BTW if anybody is using FB, Thomas Gunn just uploaded some preliminary pix of new sculpts to his page about 4 hours ago

Robin,
I hate to be the one to tell you but I have the strong feeling your wife is very exposed to your hobby. Unless you are telling us all those great displays are set up and packed away whilst she is out shopping {sm4}

Regarding FB I know somebody who ''çhecks in'' when they go to a restaurant and even when out shopping^&confuse. Whilst it is clearly a usefull tool it is not for me. I am on it but not looked for a long time. I might need to go in to stop receiving inane updates because somebody has put up a photo etc.

I am another non-FB and non-Twitter user.
As far as I'm concerned if a manufacturer has anything to tell me they can post it on thier website.
I could care less what they put on FB.
