So a friend from this forum (Flynn) sent me a screenshot of a guy on Facebook selling what he descrube as Kimg & Country, Conte, Honor Bound toy soldier. Liam (Flynn) is in Liverpool and the seller was in Glasgow (right by me).
I got in touch with a lovely gentleman called Tommy and organised a meet up. I went over to his house and Oh My God...WHAT A COLLECTION.
He had a mix of newer and older for ever range:
1. King and country
-Battle of the bulge
- Dday
-Market Garden
-Arnhem '44
-Waffen SS
-Wermacht
-Afrika Korps
-RAF
-Fields of Battle
-USAAF
-Old Hong Kong
-Vietnam
-Napoleonic
-Cruasaders
2. Figarti
-Vietnam
-WW2
-Modern
-Other
3. Britains
-WW2
-Sons of Empire
-Sudan
-WW1
-Napoleonic
-ACW
-AWI
-Zulu
Conte
-WW2 PlaySet with church and priory, Bridge, farmhouses, houses etc - I may go for this myself.
-WW2
-Rogers Rangers
Honor Bound
-WW2
Collectors Showcase
-WW2
-Vietnam
Some sort of 1/30th plastic model kits that were all German tanks, big in 80s he said.
Lots of other brands that I haven't seen for ages:
Old Northwest Tradinf Company
Corgi
Patriot
So many others.
Lots of 1/6th figures and a few vehicles too.
Honestly I've never seen a collection like this.
The only downside?
He never kept ANY of the boxes
He repeated several times about how toy soldiers were the only thing that seemed to hold their prices. I hadn't the heart to correct him.
When it did come to the nitty gritty he tried to use Ebay (IC Toys) as examples of pricing. I said:
1. He's a dealer offering dealers prices which even then are high. And much of his stuff has been there for ages.
2. His stuff will have the boxes.
3. Never use ebay as a guide for pricing as if someone wants £300 for something worth £20. They'll put it as Buy It Now because they can!
In the end I walked away with the DDay 3rd infantry Quad and Limber, 25 Pounder gun (missing revolving wheel and with broken tow hook) and the little Infantry figure who is in a peeing motion (been looking for him for ages).
The single figure has a few paint chips but I haven't been able to find another for a couple of years so needs must.
I will no doubt return to the gentleman and pick up some more items after June.
Cheers!!
