On ebay UK there is a set comprising a canoe and 4 French marines.Even the seller admits being baffled by this set thinking it is an early set of JJ.I believe this is not a JJ set and the seller himself was unaware when he bought this. What is the opinion of other JJ collectors,

MARCO55....Never seen this set on frontline or J.J. listings. Would be interesting to see one.

There's a picture of it on ebay.I was checking out JJ and at the bottom it said 6 JJ items international and it was there.I don't know how to put a picture from there onto this forum.

The description:

JOHN JENKINS FRENCH MARINES IN A CANOE RETIRED

I AM AN AVID COLLECTOR OF JOHN JENKINS FIGURES BUT THIS SET HAS ME PUZZLED, MAYBE SOMEONE CAN HELP?

THE SET COMPRISES OF FOUR FRENCH MARINES PADDLING A CANOE. THE FIGURES ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

THE MARINES ARE BOXED IN THE CORRECT JOHN JENKINS BOX IN THEIR FOAM CUT OUTS AND THE BOX IS THE USUAL JOHN JENKINS CARDBOARD BURGUNDY. BUT THE BOX BEARS NO LABELS OR DESCRIPTION.

THE CANOE IS UNBOXED.

I BELIEVE THAT THESE MUST BE VERY EARLY FIGURES FROM JOHN JENKINS FROM THE FRENCH INDIAN WARS OR EVEN PROTOTYPES.

I HAVE NOT COME ACROSS ANYTHING LIKE THIS SINCE I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING JOHN JENKINS IE OVER FOUR YEARS.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY FURTHER INFIORMATION LET ME KNOW.

Here is a Frontline canoe with a figure from John's CAN-02.

Seems like this was on ebay about 6-9 months ago and I showed it to John...

I believe he told me he was looking into it and never found the guy.

It's definitely not John's canoe...way too big...

but the copies of the Frenchman are pretty good...

Sgt. Klink....."I know nothing":D

Ahhhhhh!!!!

of course...Col Klink....Sgt Schultz!!!!!

the memory is the first thing to go...I stand corrected.

Good thing he's not the one in the canoe - it'd be swamped!

I'll be interested to hear exactly what these figures are.

I sent the seller a note telling him to look at this link....

this is his response....

Dear mikemiller1955,

The set is not a Jenkins set although the paddler is from the
Jenkins CAN02 set. He is one of two paddlers in that set. The
canoe you have is a Frontline canoe which is why it won't fit the
box. CAN02 has two paddlers in a two man canoe, not 4 so
therefore the set is a mystery but definitely not Jenkins, unless
he can confirm it as a prototype - you can email him directly and
ask on his site. He did sculpting work for Frontline at one point
so maybe you have something more interesting than you think,
or it's a case of someone trying to make up a knock off set.
Could be from Hong Kong as that is where they are
manufactured. Hope that helps. this was i post i received which i
belive is accurate the figures are definetly john jenkins

John has not responded to my email yet.

In reply to your question

"This is not an official JJD set

The French Militia figure is a JJD figure from set CAN-02

The Canoe looks like it is a Frontline Canoe.

Over a year ago I replaced 4 of these slightly damaged figures for a dealer. It seems the replaced figures were repaired and have found their way onto e-bay".

email from John on 12/6/2009...this should explain the mystery and authenticity
