hi i was just wondering if anybody could tell me what the differences are in the fallschirmjager uniforms? some of them are 2 different grey colours while the newer releases are a camouflage colour with yellow trousers? were the different uniforms used at different points in the war or were they adopted just for different areas of conflict?
i want my dioramas to look correct so i want to make sure i display the right regiments against each other!!!

any help would be great thanks Craig.

I've got 5 sets of they grey ones mate, and two sets of the camoflaged - Motorbike and Grenadiers, the grey ones are amazing, even thought they are grey they look dead lively!:)

The camoflaged ones work great with Normandy figures!:D

I can't speak for historical accurassy, but I can speak of how good the figures look!:D:cool:

The yellow trousers were used for tropical/mediterranean locations (ie North Africa, Italy etc.)

The solid colored jump smocks were common early in the war. The splinter camo jump smocks appeared in 1941. Both types of smock appeared in North Africa. Later on the camo smock was common.

Not an expert here...just from what I've read from the Concord book...

the grey FJ are specific to Crete. The yellow stuff was tropical (Africa & Italy as noted by others), and early war (Holland, etc.) was a different solid color.

Do you have a sample of the Normandy smocks, helmets and trousers?

The first smock I posted in this thread (post 5) is Luftwaffesplittertarnmuster 41. Note how the pattern is made up of large brown polygons. Embedded within the brown polygons are smaller green polygons. In the sample shown the base color of the garment is tan. The base color also appeared as a greyish green on some items.

The first smock along with any of the following pictures would be fine for Normandy.

  1. Jump smock in Marsh 43 pattern. Note how the colors of the polygons have been reversed from the Splinter 41 smock posted earlier. Now the larger polygons are green and the smaller embedded polygons are brown. In addition there is an early attempt to dither the edges of the polygons. There is another variant of this called Marsh 44 where the only difference is the dithering is smoothly implemented.
  2. Standard jump trousers
  3. Fallschirmjager in a Splinter 41 smock and standard jump trousers. The FG42 and accompanying bandolier were not common items.
