As a Lt(jg) in 1905, who grounded his ship and went on to become one of the most famous admirals in the U.S. Navy? Where was he from?

Admiral Nimita is correct, but he is from Fredericksburg, Texas about 60 miles southwest of San Antonio, Texas for those going to the show May 29th and 30th. His museum is located there with an emphasis on the war in the Pacific and well worth the trip. Great town and lots of shops and great places to dine. It is interesting that even though he grounded his destroyer, he was not cashiered.

Learned something new Bill. I was going to guess between Nebraska or Texas. I knew he grounded a ship early in his career and was raised away from the oceans.

LBJ grew up in Johnson City near there but hadn't gotten started nationally then. FDR's VP also was from that area. Sam Rayburn from Bonham in NE Texas was Speaker of the House so he may have some good support in addition to his leadership and tactical skills.
