I'm looking for imput on color scheme likes dislikes anything. Do you like the doors on long side or narrow side. Should they be made larger smaller anything constructive would help. Here are pics of the first painted farmhouse with the door on the narrow side.

I think it looks great. The only constructive criticism I would offer is either (1) add some bullet holes or shell damage or (2) maybe cut and paste some shingles on the roof.

Mike how about when you go to paint one of the next ones you have that are still unpainted you try a different color on the brick work so when you put them together in a diorama it breaks up the look and adds more varitety.

How about a red brick one with an old concreate look in the cracks for one, also try and paint every other few bricks lighter or darker to give it a more natural look. Try and blend burgandy colors and blacks, reds and let the colors mix into each other and don,t fully mix the colors together, let them be partly blended like real bricks are. Look at some brick building and notice how some single bricks have dark almost black look to them while others are almost light orange looking.

You could also go with a white/off white, brick/stone look on another and paint every other few bricks light gray, orange rust looking rock colors and other natural stone looking colors and try and highlight them also and I think that will really bring them to life.

I agree Louis, the roofs are my achiles right now. Tim if I could paint as good as you, I could do wonders with these. I am going to do a mocha colored stone, these are suppose to be brown stone and gray stone farmhouses. I agree with you, they need more colors mixed around. I'll work on that on my next one. Thanks for the imput, I don't mind constructive critisium, that is exactly what I'm looking for.Mike:)

Mike that is the best way to improve your work is to have critisium of your own work and look it over real good and find what you don,t like about it and try and improve those things you didn,t like on the next one you do.
We learn from our mistakes and should not get down about things that didn,t go quite right the first time but should just think about how to make it better on the next one.

To many guys out there get discouraged to fast and just give up to quick and say they can,t do something without even tring. You should see some of the total crap I have made, but I don,t give up. Its still all crap!:p And I still haven,t given up yet!!!:p

Mike You make some incredible buildings and you don,t seem like the type to give up easy and I,m sure your building will improve with each one you make.
I look forward to seeing your future work, I,m sure each new piece will be better then the last.
Keep up the great work!!!!

I spent some time with Mike on Thrusday drinking ice tea provided by my host and shooting the breeze about Toy Soldiers our Hobby and yes members of the forum. Spending sometime in his vault filled with goodies and having the chance once again to see what Mikes been up to it's amazing how talented and creative he is. The photos of the houses do not do them justice they are extremly well done and put together and far superior in many cases with what's being offered by others. I also spent some time looking at the number of Mike's Conte GI conversion in their various stages and they are second to none in poses along with his painting skills. All and all it was an afternoon well spent. Thanks for the goodies you sent me home with Mike and looking forward to your visit to my neck of the woods.........Joe (aka The Lt.)

Mike,

I think you've done a top job on these houses and I personally like the grey job on the houses / walls, looks really good. I prefer the door on the 'long' side of the house, with a window either side, dunno why, just appeals more that way. Would the long window in the roof have been typical of WWII era houses? I'm only asking out of ignorance, it just gives the appearance of a more modern house.

By the way, is that the starting of a church tower lurking in the background of one of your photos?

Simon

Simon, you have good eyes, it would. It has alot of work to go, as far as the farmhouses go, I was trying to make them appeal to many eras. They probably are a little to modern looking for Normandy France, thats why I try to dirty them down like I do. Joe Baker of Playsetaddict has bought the second house with the door on the long side. I can only imagine what he is going to do with it. I have been following his dio's for years now, and I was flattered, when he wanted to buy one. Hope to make Barns and corral fences and small shed like buildings in the future. Thanks for the imput, much needed. Mike:)

These are my newest painted up Farmhouses, I have improved the doors, they open better. The paint scemes are sort of the same, (I HATE PAINTING), but there are a few changes.

As you can see, I have not been slacking, I've been painting up a storm, not like the Kilted one, but enough. Wait till you see the newest insanity I've been working on. Hint, more walls. Mike:)

Very nice both houses are great (I like better the door on the center). My constructive advice is to put some dirt on it, the details of theses walls will came out much better.

Excellent work.

:)Cheers

Mike,

For someone that doesn't like painting, you sure don't cut any corners with it. Excellent finish. (And it's good to see that you've got a ready supply of spare pink foam stored against your roof. Insulation - don't need it - more buildings, walls etc. :D)
