Has anyone here heard of these figures? I am looking for some information on their line when it was produced, is the company still around etc. Web address? Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Dave,

Do you mean Sarum Toy Soldiers?:)

Hi Steven,

I am doing some research on a set before I commit to buy and was told by the sellers rep it was Farnum and since I am not sure about the maker I could be mis-informed. Can you tell me what does Sarum produce? The set I am considering is basicly an Officers Mess Bar scene.

Dave,

There is a nice article on Page 8 of the March 2007 (Issue #106) of Toy Soldier and Model Figure Magazine about Patrick Willis, the proprietor of Sarum Soldiers. On page 8 there is a picture of Patrick standing behind some of his products. Look closely at the picture and you may see some figures that remind you of those you are considering purchasing.

Let me also quote from this article:

"The company's toy-style strong suits have included the British Army of 1879-1914 and the present day, the Indian Army, mess dress figures, the Great Powers prior to World War I, and bands from the Himalayan kingdoms of Bhutan and Sikkim. The maker's varied civilian themes have included figures of real and fictional literary personalities such as Rudyard Kipling, Gunga Din and Sherlock Holmes."

The article indicates that Mr. Willis "will cease mail-order operations and pull the plug on his Website at www.sarumsoldiers.com effective July 1, 2007." You might want to check his website pronto to see if there is any information that might help you with your decision.

I think I am aware of the purchase you are considering and I thought of Sarum Soldiers last night, but I wanted time to find the article that I knew I had read. If you have the magazine, check page 8. The article is primarily about Mr. Willis' plans for closing his business.

I hope this information helps you. Perhaps Steven can add more information which might be useful.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Pat,

I think you may well be correct about the name of the maker of these soldiers I will have to take a look and see if thats the case i suspect it is after reading the description. I will also see if I can get a copy of the magazine.

Thanks again for the assistance!

All the best

Dave

Sarum makes soom of the best toy soldier vignettes I have ever seen. They are well detailed and colorful. If I read correctly they are going out of business soon. I wish they were sold over here.:(

Hi KV

Have to agree with you from what little I have seen of these figures they are top notch and its extremely unfortunate they are going away. I have tried several times to open the web address to no avail so I guess they have pulled the plug early.

I will keep you all posted on what I do about the sets offered.

All the best

Dave

Thats a big shame if what you say is correct about Sarum Soldiers. My wife and I used to paint for them some years ago. I must have painted hundreds of their modern British Army figures over the years. My wife used to paint the Ladies and some of the Wild West sets as well as the Sherlock Holmes figures.

Big shame.

Regards

Jeff

Do you have any leftovers????????????????????????

I'm sorry but no I don't, they all went back painted some years ago.

From what I've read above I wonder if Sarum is only going to sell at shows?

Jeff,

The article from which I quoted earlier indicated that he would be selling his remaining stock at shows. Apparently, he has been in business for seventeen years, while holding a full-time job elsewhere. The article did not indicate if he would continue to produce figures to only be sold at shows.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Thank you both for the info. That's bad news.....Patrick had a great range of figures that will be missed if somebody doesn't buy the company. I know that he was trying to sell it some years ago because he didn't have enough time to
devote to it but he carried on untill now. Big big shame.

Here is a photo taken a couple of years ago of some 'work in progress' that my wife was doing for Sarum.
