I just pulled this one from storage.

Mainly, I appreciate the physical history of what these old figures represent.

The Second Boer War was being fought as this figure was cast and painted. Kind of like current event in miniature.

I have a lot of Britains to pick from so singling out a favorite is difficult so here is a group I am very fond of.

All the best

Hey Dave

Not to be a wiseacre but, well why are they your favorite??

Cool figures Gideon. One TS shop I got to has a few figures produced from the 1907-10 (?) era. I have kind of bounced around about getting them- they are pretty rough but the price is good enough.

Get them. If the price is good enough and you can afford to do it then there's no real reason not to.

They are really wonderful. I have a group of Japanese from the Russo-Japanese war dated to 1904 - same paper labels. These figures are becoming really hard to find now - especially with the label in tact.

Hi Chris,

Long time since we last chatted. I saw the outdoor display that you did with the son and heir and thought that was great! Of course you know he'll be building his own real soon so keep an eye on your sets for guys who go MIA...:D

As for why they are favorites well "They're Cav man and if you ain't Cav you ain't s**t!" Like you didnt see that one coming! Actually I really am fond of the Life Guard and the Hussar because my wife allowed me to get them from a small antique shop in New Zealand on our honeymoon.

Also I totally agree with Gideon buy the old guys! They are getting really pricey and more difficult to find.

Also I found a great Murphy's Law of Armor list I will put in to the Comical Military Thread.

All the best

Dave

Great story sir!! Love the euphemism as well:D

Yeah, I need to take another look at this guys shop again. His shop is like a curiosity corner of toy soldiers. Just stuff all over the place, which is what makes it so enjoyable (Stockade Miniatures in Stroudsburg Pa).

Looking forward to the Armor list.

Here is a set # 136. Britains Russian Cavalry Cossacks. 1935- 5 pieces and made after WWll also. John

I think my favorite would be the 8848 elephant set. It is by far the prettiest one I own.

Sorry, no capability yet to take my own pictures! But my favorite from the old lines is the Lancer officer, turned in his saddle to face to the right.

From the newer lines, I have two groups or sets. One is the Imperial German field artillery set in review order, I snap those up whenever I can. The other group is the Redcoats series, specifically the Foot Guard figures circa 1756. Very well done.

Prost!
Brad
