Hi all, we have had our polls on our favorite music, movies, songs, etc. now the best one.....where is your favorite place to eat?? my thread I'll go first.... there is a chicken joint in Richmond Va. called the Golden Skillet restaurent, and it has the best fried chicken and fries in the world!!!!!!!!when I lived in Va. and was a single guy at the time, every wednesday when I got paid the first thing I did was head over to nine mile road and get me a 8 piece chicken and large fries, man those were some great meals, I even thought about having a friend back east send me a bucket by fedx on dry ice,!! but I just have to make do once a year when I go back on vacations. mmmm delicious thoughts of chicken.....Sammy

The original Peter Luger's Steakhouse in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Their Porterhouse Steak is the best in the world, and the Tomato & Onion Salad, oversized Shrimps (both best with Peter Luger's Sauce), German Potatoes, and appel strudel or pecan pie with ample quantities of "slag" (fresh whipped cream) are far and away my favorite meal.

That being said, Larry Lo's amazing Chinese Restaurant, Tse Yang, the #1 rated Chinese Restaurant by Zagats in New York, and my club, Tiro A Segno, which makes unbelieveable 7 course traditional Italian meals, are a close second.

There was a hamburger stand in Westwood, CA called Tommy's. They sold chiliburgers that were to die for - maybe literally. On a cool California night you could sit under the old canvas and eat your heart out. I haven't been there in a decade or more. Hopefully they are still in business. My wife likes the Inn at Little Washington in Virginia.

Well my favourite place to eat is my parent's.

You just can't beat good home cooking !!!!

Yummy British grub, shepherds pie, roast beef & yorkshire puddings, homemade apple pie & custard. My dad makes a wicked variety of Indian dishes and also a to die for peking duck :p :p :D

My favorite out here is a dim sum place called Dynasty. They also serve great chou fun.

I also love Candido's in Segovia and all the tasca bars in Madrid although I haven't been there in years.

I'm with you. britfarmer, except for me, it was my Nana's. She was a great cook, and let me cook with her. We all agree in our family that no one made spaghetti sauce like Nana did. Or pies, no one has been able to make pie crust like she did.

Prost!

what is yorkshire pudding exactly?????

The easiest way to describe it although 100% correct is that it is basically pancake batter (crepes not american pancakes) but you bake them in the oven and they rise up and your have them hot with gravy. They are absolutely to die for !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can make them in muffin pans or in a big raosting pan.

My Pop-Pop used to make something similar to that, with Italian sausages and fresh dough from Malone's Bakery in Allentown. You could buy a tin of proofed dough to take home and bake. He would get the dough, roll some sausages in them and bake them.

Mmmmmmmmm-Italian sausages in dough from Malone's, aghlghlghlghlghlghlghlghlghlghl!

Pop-Pop used to make wine, too, he'd buy the grapes from truck farmers who brought them into town and sold them from the back of the truck (hence the name). Don't know if it was any good back in the day, but I know when Nana passed away, we still had 2 big carboys full of it, and it was excellent vinegar.

Prost!

I have to say, my favorite place to eat (that I can afford) would be Cracker Barrel.. excellent "down home", southern cooking.

A place I really enjoyed (amongst others) on my recent trip to England was The Garrick Inn in Stratford-Upon-Avon. We were there on a Sunday and had the traditional English Sunday Roast - Roast Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, potatoes, gravy and some veggies... Here's a picture of the restaurant..
