The 40th Woodstock anniversary inspired me on this one.
Which are you favorite sixties and early seventies rock/pop bands?
Music is another interest of mine, but I am 43 and find it hard to follow today's scene. When I was younger and had more time I did follow some bands. Although I was a small child in the sixties/early seventies, I find that, IMHO, most of the best bands came from that period.
For starters I would mention of course, the Beatles (you can find all kinds of superb music in the Beatles albums really), and the Stones.
But I more frequently listen, whenever I can, to other bands that didn't get such ultra extensive airplay and so sound like fresher discoveries...
Probably my favorite listening at the moment is PROCOL HARUM (remember a Whiter Shade of Pale and more?). Just love that Hammond Organ, Brooker's voice and piano, the lyrics... Curiously I found out about this band in the late seventies, when I got hold of «Grand Hotel», an album my Uncle had offered to my Father...
I used to be a great Pink Floyd fan, and enjoy their music a lot, but apart from «The Dark Side of the Moon», Procol Harum sound fresher to me...

Any tunes you'd like to play?

Cheers,
Paulo

Led Zep, BTO, Cream, Derrick & the Dominos. The early '70's were the best time for rock.

Really like Rod Stewart, early Elton John, Cat Stevens for starters. -- lancer

From Woodstock and that era...they're all good. And of course the groups spawned from or by the event. Hendrix, Joplin, Doors, Stones, Zep,Airplane, Very early Rush, among all the others that led the way, eventually to the Punk, New Wave and alternative movements a little less than a decade later.

Cream, early Stones (not past 1972), Animals, Yardbirds, Spencer Davis, Throgs and Iron Butterfly (just for Inagaddadavida). No other decade has even come close to the 60s. A lot of 60s music was blues infused, because of the influence of the blues on British rock (which cannot be overestimated). A big assist goes to people like Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf. They greatly influenced the Stones. Just listen to Little Red Rooster on The Rolling Stones, Now!

Louis and Brad great minds think alike.:):)These groups were my favorites. As far as I'm concerned rock is dead as there is no one today that comes even remotely close to these groups and many other groups of those times.T-Rex,Steppenwolf,Thin Lizzy, the list can go on and on.LONG LIVE ROCK & ROLL!
