Hey guys,

To encourage a bit more dicussion in the ranks, lets hear what your favourite Imperial Peice (to date) is? I know its hard!!

Furthermore, what is a set you would really love to see come out of the land of the long white cloud? (NZ...) :D

I couldn't decide between my favourite peices:
Royal horse Artillery, The Thin Red Line, The Coldstream Guards band and Chassuers a pied of the 1st Empire

I hope David continues to make his exceptional Waterloo and Napoleonic series! These must be truely some of the most beautiful toy soldiers in existence!

I would love to see a particular British Rifles regiment in the future!

Share some Imperial love! :D

Nathan,
My favorite is not even a figure, it's the Rorke's Drift Storehouse. It is fine in detail and scale, though I do love the "Brave Defenders" series that went with it. I have stopped acquiring Imperial only because they don't go well with Trophy of Wales(My fave). I still have them boxed away safe and sound.

Hi Guys,

This is a good question. My favorite piece is Edward VII mounted and in the uniform of the Colonel of the 7th Hussars. I have a few others that I really like to but that one if the top of the list.

All the best

Dave

Great Question, Nathan.

I also have a hard time picking just one--even in my comparatively small Imperial collection.

The 1815 1st Foot Guards Colour Party is pretty wonderful, and one of the first Imperials I ever owned--the Earl of Uxbridge--is pretty close to the top of the heap. Imperial's Napoleonics are all by themselves.

But my out-and-out favorite piece/set however is still General Picton, 1815. Why such a drab figure? I like the history behind a man in a top hat on a battlefield, sure, but the real reason is that Picton nails what Imperial does better than anybody. If you have it, look at the poise of the figure and the figure with his mount.

Imperial is able to communicate so much personality and seem so lifelike--and they do it so QUIETLY. Just the pose. Imperial's glossies are more convincing representations of human beings than any number of "caught in mid-air wounded guy crying out" figures from other manufacturers.

Sorry, that's a bit much.

But I should also note that this is the quality that makes me pick up Town and Around figures from time to time--without having had any particular interest in the resulting Edwardian street scene I have on the shelf.

The younger woman selling flowers with her wrist cocked, half-turned away from her customer? Just amazing.

All right. I'll be quiet for a minute.

No no I hear exactly what you're saying

I said the same thing when I opened up Joseph Murat (Marshall of France) His pose is so bourgoise, so aristocratic you can almost feel the arrogance eminating from the figure!!

And amazingly this kind of 'body language' is created without any washes or dyes - truely some masterful work!

Thanks for the contributions!!! I haven't seen the George figure with my own eyes yet!!

Keep up the Imperial Love :p

Yo Trooper, two weeks stable duties for you. Edward the VII was Colonel of the 10th Hussars. Any more mistakes like this Trooper and you are getting demoted. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR TROOPER.
Lord Cardigan lol:D.

Hi Bernard,

Right,

I'll tell my 4 month old to stop waking dad up every hour;)

Then maybe I'll be able to remember a unifrom or two.

All the best from a sleepless Tanker

Just one???????????????????????????????? Are you kidding????????????????????
With Imperial????????????????????????? Why I might as well cut off my leg right now!Around Town series is wonderful. The Napoleonics are terrific! The ACW line is....... Not to mention all the kilted guys. And you want me to pick one??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

OH sufferrin' sucotash-h-h-h-h-h!

Good thread topic, Nathan.

I am going to have to do some long thinking and, perhaps a general review of the troops before finally deciding.

That said, I have always liked the R.E. Lee figured from the Americana Series for exactly the reasons that Nathan identifies. Just a few brush strokes are enough for Cowe's sculpt to evoke the man in miniature.

Also, anyone else who wishes to illustrate their choice of favorite figure using pics from my galleries should feel free to do so. Alas, you Naps lovers are still awaiting those, but I will try to get them up soon.

Cheers,
Drum

One does his best, mon amie! Especially when thoughtfulness is shown! Kilted troops are always appreciated! Being on the computer has helped my eyesight improve.:)

Restart! Restart! I think Nathan's question bears answering by everyone. Goes a long way towards making clear why Imperial is Imperial.

So, all of you Imperial-ites,-ists,-ees that dodged the question and/or let it slide...search your souls and your collections and tell us your favorite Imperial piece/set. By the second week of 09, say, then a list of the responses could be compiled by, say, me.

Think that would be an interesting document. So, again, my pick was Set 113 General Picton, Waterloo, 1815.

Although I don't have any Imperial...

#27 HM Edward VI is also a favourite of mine but I have to go with #20 HM George V Col in Chief of the Scots Guards.

And, just to review what's been compiled thus far:

Nathan:
Royal Horse Artillery
The Thin Red Line
The Coldstream Guards Band
Chasseurs a pie of the 1st Empire

1879fanatic:
Rorke's Drift Storehouse
Hon Mention: "Brave Defenders" set

DMNamiot:
Edward VII, Mounted

Stavrogin:
113: General Picton, Waterloo, 1815

Drum:
Delayed Final Decision...but mentioned the ACW Robert E. Lee

thebritfarmer:
#20 HM George V Col in Chief of the Scots Guards

Pardon any assumptions I've made...

stavrogin,
Thanks for compiling the favs...of just 6 guys on a forum of 1150?????? Surely there must be more Imperialistas out there!
Merry Christmas!
Mike

I have to agree with Dave , Edward the Hussar is the one. but then I am partial to Hussars.
