Just wondering if any of the K&C collectors from Ontario (Canada) would like to get together and take a trip to Mait Land Toy Soldier Shop in Goderich, Ontario and maybe grab a hotel for the night, my wife is the manager of the Holiday Inn and may get us a good rate. If we met in one spot travelled together to make things easier it might help. I don't know if you buy from this dealer but he is great. Before going I would have an advance order ready then buy what ever else appealed to me. I missed the show and thought that it would be fun, who knows it may become a sort of tradition once or twice a year. I know Christmas is coming up and we will be all short on cash but maybe in January/February. If we do decide on this when the date gets closer I can let Ron from Mate Land know we will be coming. What are your thoughts, who knows it may lead to some good friendships other than just the foram. My wife is sick of hearing about my collecting......;)

Don't all of you jump at the chance at the same time now...there is only so much room in a vehicle.....;) Guess that ends that idea...lol...too funny.

Wellington it was a great idea and if I still lived back in Ontario I would take you up on the offer. Sorry but the drive now would certainly be a "Road Trip!" Better hurry and go now though because Goderich can sometimes be a little wintery in the later months. Lake effect you know. Hwy 21 can be a disaster to navigate in a white out situation, almost as bad as some Eyota, MN weather I hear. :p

Thanks Fullyautomatic, you have softened the blow some what. I think Sceic2 made mention of meeting up at some point. Who knows maybe sometime in the future...maybe their isn't enough collectors in Ontario....it only takes a few people more the better..I would have suggested bringing the wives BUT and this is a BIG BUT...I'm so sick and tired of my wife complaining on how long I take at Maitland's. Her idea of buying soldiers is no talk just buy and get out in 10 minutes to go site seeing or spend 6 hours looking at shoes. Sorry but most of the enjoyment in any collecting is meeting new people and talking about the hobby. I have gone twice with my wife she leaves me there for an hour then pulls up doesn't come in and starts to honk the horn until I give up cut everyone off in mid speach and explain that the noise outside isn't a car alarm but my wife telling me its time to move on!!! Next time I will be going alone or with other collectors so that I can look, talk, buy, talk somemore then look and buy again and again and again for HOURS. Then go for dinner have few beer and discuss the hobby (of course this would be done with other collectors and not alone or its time to stop collecting) then think about what I should have bought return to the shop in the morning to look, talk and buy some more...that is an ideal trip in my mind....:D

Not that I want to stoke the fever of a Napoleonic fan, but since you have some time on your hands, have you read the Bernard Cornwell "Sharpe's" series of novels? I've had one sitting on my bed side for better than a year and I'm not halfway thru the series. Think Tom Clancy in the wars of Napoleon.
Many times I have read till 2 or 3 in the morning unable to put it down. They really revived my interest in the age.

No I havent read the series but I will look into it now that you mention it. Thanks for the tip it sounds very interresting!!

As well as the books there are a whole series of Sharpe films from the UK starring Sean Bean. I recommend them highly for a bit of napoleonic action and bodice ripping!
