The V-2, or Vergeltungswaffe 2, was the first long range ballistic missile to be actively used in combat, with over 3000 V-2s launched against allied targets in WWII. This huge German rocket hurtled a one-ton warhead more than 50 miles high and hundreds of miles down range to its target.
