Hi Guys,

A group of Roman soldiers have been attacked by a marauding band of Gallic warriors... Although initially caught by surprise and suffering several casualties the Romans are fighting back... Who will win? Who knows?

Best wishes and...
have a great weekend!

Looks good when they all converge into a melee. The might of Rome is being tested yet again. Where are the Calvary when you need them. Robin.

'Who will win'
Gaius Julius Caesar of course!

Always loved this painting except that the Roman armor and shields are inaccurate for this time period (53/54 BC). Plate armor and rectangular shields originated closer to the mid 1st Century AD.

I'm certainly not a "rivet counter" and I truly appreciate K&C's Romans but the Gauls were pretty much defeated and subjugated by the end of the First Century BC. The Roman armor and shields depict the mid to late First Century AD. K&C's Romans would be better suited to fighting
Germanics, Dacians, Parthians, Jewish Rebels and British Celts. But we can use our imaginations and still enjoy a good battle scene.

Interesting point 'NY'... As you say most of the Gauls may have been defeated and subjugated by the end of the 1st. Century...But certainly not all of them...
Perhaps this was a group of 'rogue' Gallic warriors who had gone off the reservation and chanced upon a small unsuspecting Roman patrol...Or conversely a bunch of pro 'Brexit' British Celts out looking to cause some mischief and mayhem!!!
Whatever we decide...playing with toy soldiers allows all of us, as you say, to use our imaginations and still enjoy a good battle scene.
Best wishes and happy collecting,
Andy.

Very possible and some could pass for latter Germanic Tribes and maybe even some Brits as well.
The Romans are wonderful figures and there will be plenty of adversaries for them in the market soon.

This is the very point I raised with a couple fellow collectors . Gaul was subjugated in 58 BC by Caesar . Around the third century ( 240?) the Francs were given the romans billyo. then 4-5 the Goths the visigoth and the ostrogoths . ( the great migration. ).

But as pointed out some of the figures are germanic in apperance with their top knots ( 9AD ) . teutonburg Wald

I have bought all the Celts so far . Love the colour and plaids on the trousers .
There is RnB 002 the standard bearer , I was suprised with the severed heads they are cast in resin but hues and tones on on his bare chest are great this figure could be Germanic and so could RnB 008 .
But What would I love to see are some real Britons , Wode on their bodies and lime in their hair . Picts any one who could harrange the Mile fort .

Also some civillians . I have collected LOJ for this purpose but the wrong theatre

The subdued Celts all work well can be up for the next slave auction in Rome .
I have all the three series of Romans and celts except some of the original gloss figures . Each range has got better in detail and love the this range . Cannot wait for the Ballista .
