I HAVE JUST RECEIVED THIS KING & COUNTRY FIRE BASE. IT CAME FROM

ENGLAND, AND I WOULD LIKE TO PUT TOGETHER ITS HISTORY. IT LOOKS LIKE

IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE PHOTOGRAPHED FOR THE VIETNAM BROCHURE.

IT CAME WITH THE HUEY (The Skulls) TWO RESIN M113'S....JEEP TURNED

OUT TO BE A GATE MODEL.

ANDY, LOUIS IF YOU COULD PROVIDE ANY INSIGHT INTO THIS PIECE, I

WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

You outbid me for these items (I'm the reason you had to go over 1,500 British Pounds). I have all of them, but were bidding to get them as a gift for Larry and Hans. But I certainly don't hold it against you, and will give you the history of these items. K&C made two different versions of the Firebase, one is 6 small parts and one in 2 larger parts. The two dioramas are, however, for all intents and purposes identical. They were custom made to order, and at least 30 were made. I believe they were made, for the most part, by Andy's brother Gordon. There are two different versions of the M113 APC, one wood and one resin. From the photographs in the Vectis Auction, it appeared to me that one of your is wood and the other resin. If one of your M113's has hatches that open, its the wood version. While, like all of the other Vietnam sets, the M113's came with limited edition certificates, no where near 500 of these vehicles were produced (I think Andy estimated about 30 of the wood version and 15 of the resin were actually made). The auction also included a jeep, which could have been one of the wood or metal Arnhem jeeps. I suspect you believed it was the wood one, based on your quieries about the wood jeep on another thread. I'm sorry to see it wasn't, as it is one of my favorite pieces.

Very interesting, It came with two Resin M113's which like the Huey made

the crossing in beautiful shape. The packaging was top rate! Did you have

a bidding agent? Thistar was also in the mix, but the auction went off 12hrs

early 4:30am instead of 4:30pm EST. I happened in quite by chance!

It looks like it might be the Fire Base photographed for the Vietnam

Brochure.....what do you think?

Fire Base KIEN, #2 on Hut, exact same layout.

It theoretically could be the one photographed for the brochure, but all of the firebase dioramas are identical. I have the 2 piece version, which was custom made for me in 1999. My firebase is one of my favorite dioramas, and I hope you enjoy yours.

that whatever you are looking for is out there somewhere, and if you just

have fun looking you just might stumble across it.

Thats what happened to me in this set....I stumbled across it, put in a bid

and was ready to go to bed......the auction was scheduled to begin at 4:30

in the afternoon. I decided to check one more time before I went to bed just

to see what Thistar (he always seems to find the good stuff) was up to....

it was 11:30 in Paris and the auction was up and running about 25 items

from the Firebase......you just never know!
