Wow, been watching the devastation in Tasmania with the Fires sweeping it, not looking good and many have lost their houses{eek3} People are missing I understand but fortunately no reported deaths yet.

Unfortunately all too common here in summer and with each year we see many homes and etc lost but thankfully less lives as Australians are becoming more prepaired as the years goes by, what is replaced after these bushfires is mostly better suited to the harsh conditions as the rules and building regs and ect are revised and people become more and more aware of what they need to do, but sometimes that awareness comes at a very heavy price indeed as nature as a way of imposing her will. I guess it is all part and parcel of living in this wonderful and beautiful but at times very harsh counrty.

Rob mate,
Yes, it is in the Land Downunder the Bushfire season (and snake season) and Tassie looks like it has born the brunt of it this time. However many other fires are raging up and down the eastern coast of OZ. I would not wish to see a repeat here in Victoria of the 2009 Black Saturday fires which destroyed over 2000 homes and killed 173 good folks. Oh, but for a large wind change, I and my family may now not be of this world as that fire was bearing down on the little township of Donnybrook at wind speeds of 110 kmph.
Even as a soldier and volunteer fire fighter I have never witnessed anything as frightening as that day.
Victoria has sent over 60 firefighters to Tassie to give some relief to those on the fire line.
My thoughts and prayers are with all our Tasmania mates.
Cheers Howard

Guys, thoughts and best wishes going to all those suffering in the Tazmanian fires right now. And Howard you are spot on mate, the Victoria fires were a tradegy that doesnt want repeating. Nature is a fickle thing isnt it, you guys are fighting bush fires whilst we are fighting floods.

Best to all

Rob

Yes, our poor friends down in Tassie are doing it tough at the moment with some homes and businesses lost. Just like in the U.S., when these fires start they are very difficult to stop and because many parts of Oz had a big wet last year, there is a big fuel load in the bush at the moment.

Thanks for starting this thread Rob.

I see New South Wales is now fighting fires in several places, hope they are quickly brought under control.
