Thought I would post some images of my son's first totally solo on an Airfix kit. (I do help him with kits)
No more glue. No more paint. No more glue and paint on your fingers and fingerprints all over the model.
My son is 7 years old and knocked this up in about twenty minutes. It is similar in construction to building a Lego kit but the pieces are more complexly shaped and at one stage it was more like a jigsaw finding the right part than building a kit.
The Spitfire shape is spot on though and it is a decent size. I figure it to be around 1/48th.
From memory my first Airfix kit was a Gloster Gladiator and it didn't turn out as nice as this one.
But can you call it a real plastic model kit or a Lego kit?
