First Day Of Gettysburg (1 Viewer)

Sorry you'll have to remove this post, your showing Gasp Horrors Confederate Flags!! LOL

I'm still recovering from all of the Waterloo celebrations, but am thoroughly enjoying this layout. Most of all I like the non-uniform Rebel firing lines. The variety of firing poses used together has a great effect to make each figure seem unique.

Har Har Har. Nothing wrong with showing a flag in a historical setting or context.

There is if someone's offended. Ask anyone who's ever wondered where Louis Marx got that "German" flag in his "Battleground" sets... Or why 21st Century had the "Bonnie Blue Flag" instead of the Confederate Battle Flag in their ACW sets...

Actually, No one has the right to not be offended. If we are going to scrub history for the sake of the squeamish or the politically correct we may as well burn all the toy soldier manufactures factories down tonight.

Learning and knowing and understanding history is vitally important to be sure that we learn who we were to know who we are becoming.

Toy soldier collecting, painting and displaying is an important tool to introduce young minds to history, and older minds to remember, debate and discuss.

History is full of unpleasantness but it is that unpleasantness that makes us want to not repeat it. Symbols are a powerful tool. A flag is a symbol. This particular symbol my mean many things to different people, but if they are offended by it I think it speaks more about that person than the symbol.

Anyone can claim that any symbol offends them. The first amendment to the constitution of the United States Of America acknowledges and protects the God given right to express ourselves. How else would you know who you would want to associate with ( another first amendment protected right ) unless they express themselves openly and honestly? Would you rather that everyone keep their opinions to themselves and be closet haters or bigots and you not know it?

Right you are, Scott. If I am doing business with a local shop owner and he starts telling off colored jokes about the Polish or the Slavs or about people with a certain slant to their eyes or shade of their skin then I can stop doing business with that persons shop.

If everyone knew the shopkeepers thoughts about certain people and his beliefs and prejudices then if they didn't want to support that shop owner they could shop elsewhere and the offensive shop owner would suffer. Then he would either learn and change his behavior or risk declining business.

He could be polite and keep his thoughts to himself and serve any one who walked through his doors and treat everyone with dignity and respect, but no one should be forced to be polite. If government can make a law outlawing stating an opinion you don't agree with they will eventually make a law outlawing stating an opinion you DO agree with.

And pretty soon no one can't say nuthin'.

By the way, I like the pictures. See, it has started a conversation. Well done.
