Hello,

Could anyone tell me how First Legion Naps and Collector's Showcase Naps look together in terms of scale, painting etc? I have no CS pieces but I see they do a few sets the FL does not, such as Scots Greys and British Horse Artillery which I am hoping would look good with me FL collection.

Many thanks,

Chris

really they don t match at all
neither in size, painting or sculpting
oh and you bet fl is going to do the grays one day

cheers

I would agree. FL and CS are different kinds of painting and sculpting. Frankly, I'm not a big fan of CS, too zombie looking. I would recommend going with FL all the way.

I'm not a Naps collector so please take my opinion with a grain of salt. I have seen FL's earlier Napoleonic figures and they would be small compared to CS Naps

I do collect both companies Romans however and can say that I have no hangups whatsoever displaying their Romans together. Admittedly, I am doing a very very large Roman display and need scores of Legionaires. I can buy two CS legionaires for the price of one FL one. it's a no brainer to me but again, that is because I am doing a very large diorama. Detail is more crisp with FL romans.

I do agree with you on scale and sculpting style.

However, CS has dramatically improve their sculpting style without losing their creative animating advantage IMO.

Bottomline: CS no longer figures like zombies and in fact have plenty of color in their faces, again IMO.

Scale: comparing this between CS and FL is like comparing the earth with moon (CS-1/28 scale : FL-small 1/32 scale).

Ironically, it seems to me that CS's WWII figures are 1/30 or 1/28 scale BUT CS's ACW's line is more closely to 1/32 scale making them easily mixed with other ACWs makes.

FL has great releases and collectors contemplating collecting them should expect enjoying them apart from over makes due scale alone.

Carlos,

Since this is a FL thread, I don't want to turn it into a CS discussion. I'm just not a big fan of their sculpting style as it comes to figures. I don't collect Napoleonics but do collect Civil War and I don't like their Civil War figures either, my preference there being FL, K & C and Trophy. I know a lot of people like CS so this is just one person's opionion :smile2:

Have a good Thanksgiving. Best to Nancy.

I have mounted figures from FL, K&C and CS. The K&C figures are noticeably bigger than the FL figures and it looks like the CS figures are slightly larger than the K&C. But for size, I would put the CS and K&C figures together. The K&C painting is the brightest and the CS figures are darker and gritier but I would put them together. The FL figures do not go very well with either K&C or CS. I don't have any CS standing Nap figures to compare to K&C or FL.

Thanks for all your input guys, the I think that was a white-wash in favour of NOT mixing FL and CS, or FL and K&C for that matter. It's a shame because I thought the CS Scots Greys looked better than the K&C, likewise with the Horse Artillery, a nicer set of poses. I have not checked out older CS models but the painting and sculpting on those 2 sets I mentioned looked great.

Maybe I could put them on a shelf just to the side of the FL. I don't plan on doing a diorama with any of my figures, I more prefer to just display them in my study along with old movie posters (in this case 'Waterloo' of course, I also have model aircraft with the 'Battle Of Britain' poster).

I am a bit of a completist and would love to have as many Nap soldiers as possible, and if getting Scots Greys means shifting company briefly, maybe I will have to and just display them slightly further away from the FL stuff.

Oh and Alex, I had it from Matt himself that he won't be doing Greys for a very long time, if ever, as they have been "overdone". Another line of British Heavy Cavalry is coming in 2012 though.

I don't do NAP dioramas either. But I have tried to get representative pieces from as many nations and regiments as i can. Some regiments are produced by only one manufacturer so there is no choice. Some like the 95th rifles are produced by several - in that case by FL, CS and Britains. I will cherrypick the pieces from one company for that regiment, but on occasion will include a figure from a different company just because i like it. I have NAPs from K&C, FL, CS and Britains all displayed together. No doubt i will soon have some from TGM as well.

Terry,

That is pretty much my plan too. Fl seems without doubt to be the best quality and most varied, and then I will add pieces from other companies, I think in a large display (not diorama) on a shelf or what have you the slight difference in scale and painting style is not important, the overall look of several shelves full of soldiers is what counts!

In order to make small vignettes stand out on a glass shelf filled with figures, i was thinking of using small pieces of terrain mat for small groups like the FL French 12 pdr set or such sets.
