I’m glad I don’t collect that range anymore.

Love those Russian hussars but I would have preferred an other Russian cavalry regiment (e.g. Chevalier Gardes!) as they had already produced the Soumsky and Akhtyrsky hussars. From what I can see some of the new ones look very similar in term of sculpt to the latter ones. Anyway I am still looking forward to seeing them in more details...

I agree. A lot of this release are updates/reusing of existing sculpts.

once upon a time I understand there was the plan to repaint the Württemberger sculpt as a different regiment. But that plan was dropped because Matt was not totally happy with the sculpt considering it is now ten years old. So I am surprised the Württemberger come back as Swiss.

But no complaints. I love the sculpt and the colors of the Swiss. But I do now have hope that we will see a different Württemberger regiment later. I just love the Raupenhelm.

I agree its a bit disappointing with the reusing of existing sculpts, but I think its the only way we will see Swiss figures. I love the uniforms and can't wait to see better pictures.

I think the sculpts used for the Swiss figures go back even further then the Württembergers, they look to be the first French line release of the 61st and 57th line figures from many many moons ago.

The Russian Hussars like mentioned look also to be the reusing of the old Soumsky or Akhtyrsky figures take your pick as they were both the same figures just different paint back when. I think two old First Legion collectors like us remember all these old sculpts and units but I'm pretty sure most have been long sold out and would be new to many new collectors who may have missed them. Again I think its really the only way we would see two new Russian hussar units.

There may be a few new sculpts in there but they could also just be the heads from other releases making for a new look. We will have to see when they are released for closer inspection. Really looking forward to seeing these close up with the better painting level. Also really hoping to see some new sculpts representing some heavy cav at some point. regards Gebhard

Well, at least as you can all see, new figures are being worked on. :)

The Swiss Sculpts are conversions primarily from our original release of French Line Infantry sold out for many years now. They've been improved in some cases, given the correct headware, etc..... None of them are from the Wurttemburg sculpts, which i really don't like (the base marching figure is much too wooden/stiff). Understand guys that with a release such as Swiss Infantry we aren't going to invest $15k into brand new sculpts when we have so many existing sculpts that can be converted to Swiss. It's not financially feasible to do so and if we had to to, there wouldn't be a Swiss release. We are also converting the 18th Line Infantry firing line, one of my favorite releases, into Italian Infantry at Borodino. Again, we aren't going to sculpt a brand new Italian Firing line when we have the sculpts already done. We obviously sculpt new figures when doing French as French are popular enough to justify it. We have to leverage that investment into other things and that's what allows us to produce such figures as Swiss and Italians in full blown releases of 12-20'ish figures.

The Russian Hussars are the same sculpts as previous with some conversion work done and a standard bearer added for one of the regiments. We initially released these beautiful sculpts around 10 years ago at least, maybe more. We made very few of them and barely any of our collectors have them. Even i don't have the original figures! So we are doing these ones as much for ourselves as for our customers! Russian Hussars are stunning figures, extremely colorful and we think they make a great addition to the series. French Hussars are also being worked on, but again, those are conversions of the French Guard Chasseurs, which to me are some of the best mounted figures we've made to date.

Our biggest asset is our massive library of amazing figure sculpts. As a business, we have to leverage that asset into creative releases where we can, particularly for the Napoleonic period where so many of the uniforms are nearly the same, but the colors are strikingly different. Using this method is what allows us to create such a wide variety of Napoleonic releases covering far more than what any other company covers in terms of willingness to produce things other than "French and British." :)

Hope you're all staying safe!

Matt

Thank you, Matt, that makes sense. I was not looking carefully enough when summizing it was the Wurtenberger sculpt. I was distracted by your new excel spreadsheet.

Thanks Mat. I know the bottom line of business is driving those decisions and I respect that, but I am still waiting for the Russian Chevaliers Gardes and the French Mamelukes fighting at Austerlitz :wink2: Given the sculpt quality of FL, I am sure they would sell in no time! I know I am a broken record on those...:smile2:

The Big Sale Extension/Expansion announcements mentions new Glory of Rome figures - does anyone have a bit more information around this?

Looking forward to these. There should be something for everyone except for the die hard romans collector. Love the new tectonics.

That’s Livonian Sword Brothers to you, good sir! 😝

I am glad they are getting their due. They did a significant amount of the fighting in the Baltics. I wonder if we will get any tribes from Estonia, Latvia/Livonia or Lithuania?

I assume the German Heer Infantry go with the Stalingrad range, correct?

Looks like they are meant for the Stalingrad range. I really like two of the WSS figures, the Officer holding the MP 40 and the other ranks figure firing the MP 44 those look like stand outs to me at first glance.

Or any city fighting. Like Rostov on Don.

The helmet covers would be unusual before 1942, but still plausible. Same with helmet decals.

They would be unusual in 1945, especially as a group, but still not impossible.

So, they are pretty flexible.

Matt

You're killing us all with the amount of new releases.....slow down, we’re being swamped here.....

What am I saying?

The normal ‘snails pace’ appears to be settling in for the rest of 2020.

Well there is covid, and having an opened ended release date, wouldnt help...it will tickoff people, and Matt will not hear the end of it.
