Gents, for touching up the odd spot of flaking paint, does anyone have any insight or suggestion as to what brand(s) may be best to use on K & C ?
Thanks in advance

a chip or a scratch is scary...
but flaking sounds really bad...

I'm not picky on which acrylic paint...
lots of options...
some way more expensive than others...
just keep palette mixing til you get a good match...

if it's really flaking...
I would give it a final spray of clear coat...
flat or gloss...
whatever the original figure dictates...
to prevent anymore flaking...

Hey Rudi ...

I am not aware of the available paint brands in the UK.
For a tiny touch up almost any brand of Acrylic paint will do, but I use the following:

Model Master
Tamiya
Humbrol
and one that I just found Mig Jimenez.

You should try to mix up a few drops and apply to "something" and let it dry a bit to get the true color.
Once you are satisfied with the mix I would generally paint more than just the flaked spot. For example if it is a rifle, paint the entire stock.
Same for a elbow, paint the whole arm.

IMO .. it is a lot less noticeable if a large area is done as opposed to a dot.
A Mike said ... I always spray a bit of Matt finish (or gloss)

.. And buy a sealant. Dullcoat or ..... If it's begin to flake, it might continue someplace else... Another manufacture had the same problem, treefrog replaced it ,the same problem was on the same model. So whenever I bought something from the same manufacture,I always sprayed it with a light coat of sealant, and as everyone knows I hope.. Spray before you reach the model, and spray past the model!!l

I’ve found this problem on several of my Collectors Showcase vehicles. Paint and unit markings. And they have not been displayed. I’ve given up collecting their armor for this reason. Never had this problem with any of the other manufacturers.

I’ve never had this problem with my K&C.
Which range is showing this?
Thanks.

...as it is bare metal showing through, would it be ok to just paint straight onto it, or is it crucial to prime to area in some way first ? As it is just millimetres is there any point to prime first ? ( hopefully not...)
Cheers

I had a K&C Panzer Kommander figure with camouflage pants that started to flake. I cleaned the surface of the pants with Alcohol, let it air dry for 15 minutes than repainted the pants black with Tamiya Flat Black Acrylic XF-1. I repainted the figure about 4 years ago; no sign of further flaking.
Tamiya Acrylic paint is available at Amazon.

Appreciate this topic guys.

I have encountered a few K&C figures that have had varying degrees of flaking paint.

A few of the older Afrikakorps (AK) figures and motorcycle. One I remember well; I believe it was the figure without shirt carrying a water can that was really bad. Another was a great/brown coat sentry.

A couple of my Kriegsmarine figures have had a few flakes fall off; including Donitz which I paid a premium price to find. Exchanged a few to get a good one.

I've had a few others that I can not recall at this time, but it has been worrisome. I keep all of my collection free of direct sunlight and in an AC environment. Very little moisture where I live.

Treefrog Treasures has been great in replacing any received with chips/flaking paint. Customer service remains excellent!

Just hope that more figures do not have issues, esp. those which I really value.

I have also had this issue with some of my older AK figures (the bloke with the shirt off and carrying the jerry can is one of them) and just recently with two of my older US DD figures. Most of my K&C figure collection are ok but obviously there have been some painting issues across the ranges.

I have repaired a couple of these figures, so I can only think that it was a production problem ????

I have been lucky so far except for 1 LAH figure in my collection ( brown shirt carrying swastika flag) The white and red from the flag were peeling off.
I have however repainted for a collector some BBG figures that had the same flaking paint problem.
guy:)

Mine was a tank... I painted miniatures before and got pretty handy in doing so.. But somehow paying over $200 for it. Expectations was pretty high..

Luckily it is a very limited problem in my experience. A couple of tiny spots missing from the caps of Afrika Korps figures ( which I can live with as they are tiny) but primarily the question was raised as I was able to order from treefrog's "consignment " section the rare tropical camo Fallschirmjager from the Chicago 07 dinner, and it has some paint missing from the helmet, neck of smock and boot. Still in the post on its way to me, so hopefully it will be a localised problem. I'm hoping with pots of tan, green and black I can touch it up. Maybe it was a primer problem ?

If it succeeds I may then go on to convert my Collectors Showcase FJ Normandy foot-sloggers into Ramcke Brigade reinforcements ! A shame they never did those as a tropical option.

I have this figure and no flaking in mine. If you haven’t received it yet, how do you know there’s flaking, as opposed to some chipping?
