Hi, everyone, this is sort of the tails side of the coin for the Christmas list question:

Do any of you ever give toy soldiers as a gift? This might especially be relevant to any of you who do your own casting and painting?

I have given away sets of figures that I cast and painted, especially when I was stuck for an idea for a gift that was different, unique, and personal between me and the recipient.

How about anyone else out there?

Prosit!
Brad

Not artistic enough to cast and paint my own to give away (unless it's to someone I really despise:D) but I try to find my father some of the band figures that he likes and surprise him at Xmas.

I love giving rare retired sets to my collector friends for the holidays and their birthdays . . .

Louis,

Glad to hear that - can't wait for that Napoleonic Chess Set Christmas Gift ! :D

I have three friends that I give figures to at Christmas. I know they appreciate them and collect toy soldiers. I have given them to other people at times and got a blank stare. John

I've picked up a couple of Christmas-themed casting molds to make ornaments. I'm shopping for Nativity molds, for this year's season. Prins August has a line of them, and there are reproductions of the old Schneider Bros. molds out there, too.

Prost!

I'll be 36 on September first :D:D. I am a fan of the AWI, DDay and AE lines. You can keep your warbirds though:D:D I'll shoot you my want list when we get closer to the big day.

Brad-

good question- this is a good thread and I loved Saber and John's responses. I have actually considered giving some to my mom of all people. She really really enjoys native american life and I was taking a look at some of the John Jenkins figures as I think she would really enjoy them. As mean as this may sound though, I may have to pass as she has Parkinsons and handling small items is difficult for her at times. I have also considered getting her some of the Schleich or Papo native Americans- they are really nice and wouldn't be as breakable.

I have never thought of giving toy soldiers as a gift. People think I am nutty enough for collecting them. If I gave them as a gift, I think they'd have me committed :rolleyes:

Schleich is very well done, a larger scale for shaky hands (and little hands), durable plastic that won't shatter if dropped and perfect for mothers interested in Native Americans. And the price is right too :D.
