FLYING TIGERS---ten-hour miniseries underway about the legendary US volunteer fighter pilots who flew for China during World War II. The script is by William McDonald (ROME). Ron Shelton (BULL DURHAM) is one of the directors involved. Premiere is the summer, 2015. The project will be shown as three theatrical movies in China.

Should be a gtood series if they do not turn it into a John Wayne movie......From memory there was a bit of tension between the AVG and the USAAF once the yanks moved the B 29's into China...or.. maybe a little before that....should be worth watching if they stick to the facts...cheers TomB

Will be interesting to see the scope of the series in terms of whether it is strictly about the AVG Flying Tigers under Chennault or if it includes the history after the USAAC took over. I would think the relatively short history of the independent AVG would be the easier and more interesting, as it is those Tigers that most people know. The Tigers under the USAAC are a completely different entity than the AVG. And I hope they get the P-40 types correct. I look forward to this series. -- Al

That's correct, Tom. It's the P-40B, which made up the initial 100 aircraft of the AVG. These first 100 aircraft were supposed to go the British, who waived their right to them in exchange for a later E version. -- Al

Thanks Al...tend to get mixed up with the Tommy Hawk...the Kitty Hawk and the War Hawk.....the P40 was one hard working aircraft...I believe they fitted a Parckard Merlin into the P40 and strangely enough found it did not improve the performance..... Oh added a pic of the original Flying Tigers helping Errol Flynn win the war in Burma....regards TomBFlying Tigers.jpg
